I finished up Lords of Shadow and had a decent time of it, but I really can't help but feel they just slapped the Castlevania name on a near complete game. I think it would have been far better served as a new franchise minus the expectations/baggage the Castlevania name gives it. Hell, just slapping "From Hideo Kojima" on it would have been enough of a sales boost.
