Games I played in 2012

Games I spent my precious leisure time with this year.

List items

  • I got sick of waiting them to fix the DX11 performance and played it in DX9. Holy crap, I shouldn't have waited that long. Amazing game. So much to do. I still have more than half the Riddler trophies to get, but I'm loving it. The only thing I can say against it, really, is that while the story-telling is fantastic, the story itself isn't really that great.

  • Great game! Finished all the main levels, but there's till a ton of challenge levels left. Will probably give them a decent go.

  • I have Witched some more and loved it. The Witcher 2 has to be the most improved sequel I've ever seen. This game is brilliant. The systems are way deeper than they appear to be, the story is good (even if the writing is a bit patchy) and the graphics are probably the best I've ever seen. Can't wait to play it through on Dark Mode when the enhanced version comes out in April!

  • Another one I got cheap on Steam. A lot better than I was expecting. I didn't even mind to ridiculously immature language too much.

  • Third playthrough done and not a moment too soon. Finished it the night before Mass Effect 3 came out. This time was a perfect playthrough on my female infiltrator on insanity.

  • Man, I should have played this game years ago. Sensational.

  • Thought I might as well finish it a second time.

  • Well, I loved it. It wasn't perfect, but it was still a fitting ending to probably my favourite series of all time. The ending? I was ok with it. Particularly if certain... theories are true.

  • OK, I'm going to say I finished this even though I have 3 or so anti-cubes left on NG+. Need a short break before I tackle the last.

  • Finally done with GTA4 bar any achievements I feel like going for. I liked both of the DLC stories, but they had their characters weren't as good or interesting as Niko. Johnny was just kind of bland and angry all the time and Luis... well, Luis was kind of a dick.

  • Cute, but flawed game. Great concept. Gave it a go when I saw "Analogue: A Hate Story" go up on Steam.

  • Yeah, it was ok. Pretty flawed. The story was meh. The action got pretty repetitive, but the destruction stuff was awesome. Hey, I got my $5 worth.

  • It's fun, but not sure I'll be hitting paragon level 100. I'll no-doubt come back to it again and again, because it really is a beautifully polished game, but the loot grind can only sustain interest for so long.

  • So I played a bunch of this...

  • ...and consequently this.

  • Once again a Paradox title has me in its maw. Have to be in the mood for this kind of thing, and I've been on a strategy kick of late. The emphasis on characters over countries gives the game a unique twist on grand strategy.

  • It's been a while since I binged on point-and-click adventures. Might be time to finish this great little series off.

  • Thought I'd give this another go, five years on, with much better hardware. Performance was great for the most part and the game was a hell of a lot of fun. I was wondering why I didn't praise this game more when it came out until I got to the Alien bits. The wheels really fall off the game there. Just like in Far Cry.

  • After a lot of procrastination, I finally finished season three and this was probably my favourite episode of the lot. The puzzles in this one weren't overly taxing, but the story was interesting from start to finish. Now I really want them to make a season four.

  • Another one on my list. Enjoyed this one a lot, though it wasn't very difficult. The production values are like the first two Sam and Max seasons, so playing it after season three is a little bit jarring, but the dialogue is great and it's always good to get more Monkey Island.

  • Wanted to replay Darksiders before I started Darksiders 2. Fell in love all over again. S-ranked. Probably my game of 2010, in hindsight.

  • Thought I should finish Playthrough 2 before Borderlands 2 hit. I've finished as much of the DLC as I'm going to. Ready for 2.

  • Awesome! Now onto Apocalyptic on NG+ to get all of the collectibles.

  • Yeah, so I took 8 months off, but I'm well and truly back in time for Pandaria.

  • Best expansion yet. I'm back.

  • Things were definitely flagging by the time the Assassin's Creed 2 trilogy ended, but I'm going to miss Ezio. I hope I like the third installment more than some people seem to, because I'm sure as hell going to play it... soonish.

  • After reading the article on Rock, Paper, Shotgun, I decided to take my time. I did each mission slowly and methodically - exploring every inch of every level to make sure I didn't miss any of Dunwall's stunningly realised environments. Contender for game of the year.

  • Captivating, brutal and thoroughly upsetting. It broke my heart repeatedly, but season two can't get here soon enough. No game has ever made me feel as much as this one. A landmark game.
