AngerPanda's Big, Fat GOTY List for 2015.

List items

  • There is just something absolutely exhilarating about exploring the world of Mira. Xenoblade Chronicles X incorporates every alien planet trope possible and does it well. At times it feels creepy, other times, awe inspiring. It's style reminded me of several sci-fi anime series like Outlaw Star and Die Buster. The characters were likable and the story, while not mind blowing, was engaging enough for me to want to see what happened next. The learning curve was intimidating but once you get past that hurdle, it is one of the best open world games in years.

  • Everything about Wild Hunt felt meticulously placed into a methodically crafted puzzle. I never felt I was wasting my time doing something. Everything had a purpose. Taking contracts, completing side quests, playing gwent, crafting oils. Everything felt important and yet I never felt overwhelmed. Top that all off with some great characters and you've got an RPG for the ages.

  • Fallout 4 had some warts. Some parts of the game I would call "streamlined" while others I would call "watered down." While I didn't quite get the goosebumps I got while playing previous Fallouts, I still sunk many an hour into this game. The formula still works and I do plan on going back. For the Commonwealth!

  • While I was disappointed in the story of MGSV, I was surprised at how well Kojima and his team nailed the open world formula. Scouting, material gathering, dude extracting, and gun crafting were all key to winning against Cipher.

  • Metroidvania games will always pique my interest, especially if they have something new to bring to the table. Axiom Verge does just that. It brings you that Super Metroid style while delivering it's own unique elements into the mix.

  • Episode 2 was released in 2015. The entire Broken Age experience was a truly great callback to the days when Schafer worked at LucasArts. I was huge on those games in the 90s and felt almost nostalgic playing this brand new game.

  • Making levels sure is fun as hell! Playing an over abundance of auto Mario levels is not! I might dive back into the community at some point into the future but for now, I just love faffing about in the editor.

  • I probably didn't enjoy Bloodborne as much the rest of the gaming world, but it was enjoyable while I played it. Never beat it, don't know if I will. Everything about the game is great from the look to the controls. It's just very hard.

  • It's impressive to see a game mix so many genres together without seeming muddled. Hand of Fate scratches that itch for deck building, role playing, dungeon traversing, crowd fighting, and thing buying!
