Such shocking news. I'm not sure what to say. I think like many who love GB, I've found myself neurotically fretting from time to time about how long the site would last; who or when would be the next to leave, et cetera. Not the healthiest mindset, but one I think many may relate to nonetheless.

This place and the people on it have been such a good and constant presence in chaotic times, and moreover, a kind and welcoming group of people in a culture and industry that is often a mess. Brad, Vinny, Alex, you've all done wonderful work, for a lot of years. I hope you keep doing what you love, and I hope the best spirit of Giant Bomb, friends on a couch laughing about games, lives on forever.

Regardless of whatever lies ahead, thank you.

I agree with what others are saying here-- vaccinations have to be thought of as part of a positive strategy toward getting back to living full lives. Remembering that goal is important.

A shot won't magically fix the problem as soon as you get one as an individual, of course, but you don't want to get too accustomed to thinking "going outside and being happy = selfish and dangerous" as a permanent reflex. The temptation to do so is real, particularly given the cultural divide around the issue in some countries-- showing you're on the right side and all-- but always remember there's no inherent virtue in self-denial and misery.

We want this to end, and that's a good thing to want. We should all be demanding better. The goal is to overcome the problem, after all.

This is a cool surprise! But really disappointed it isn't wireless. Even if they went the Oculus Quest route and made it a standalone device that didn't interface with the PS5 at all that might have been preferable to another cord coming out of the back of a helmet.

They could have even called it the PSPVR. Come on.

Well, everyone's saying this will take months to sort out, so at least I can amortize my anxiety

Obviously, it all goes well beyond Destiny.

Disturbingly, from video and music streaming to games, the service-based world of entertainment seems to be becoming as much about denying you access to things as it is allowing access to them. This will massively accelerate the more that physical alternatives are removed from the landscape.

In a rational society with rational IP laws, all media of all types would be archived by the government and made freely available once it is no longer provided by the company that made it, or enough years have passed (which is to say, like, five).

We thought the internet would make everything available to everyone, forever. Instead, I'm beginning to feel like large swaths of our cultural output are going end up missing from history.

People will ask, "what was it like for people living in the stupidest time in history?" and historians will be like "we don't know."

I know this is a fairly old thread, but it just occurred to me they were pitching the first Destiny as a "ten year game," and they had to leave it behind after like, three years because the engine was so clunky and ill-suited to their plans. So they made a new engine, which has now essentially run into the same problem in a different form.

For people planning ten years ahead, they're terrible at planning ahead.

I'd like to see this problem addressed in a way that doesn't abandon large swaths of the story. Perhaps some option to download and play old campaign content in a standalone way-- even if it's only the story missions sequestered from the core progression-- then delete it when you're done. Maybe you use predetermined "loaner" equipment and get a predetermined reward at the end, to reduce the amount of retroactive balancing that needs to be done.

Hell, maybe it even downloads and launches legacy campaigns as a separate "game," removed from the live service entirely. In that way, they could bring even Destiny 1 story content forward in an archival capacity. Not that it was all that great, but... I would argue it deserves to exist.

As many have said here, definitely seems like a strong case for "deciding which part of a review will matter most to you."

Personally, I have steered clear of the super-formulaic Ubisoft-style open world checklist games for a while now, so going back to the genre in a game that has a more unique setting and style seems fine by me.

I usually put on podcasts or watch something else while I do the non-story parts of an open-world game anyway.

I never played it, so I don't know if it would be a good-bad or bad-bad time, but either way I say GO FOR IT

At least, at some point.

I think there's something to be said for the idea that any feature that is at least somewhat about watching the player suffer should have other people in the room with them to share the suffering. It's just the nice thing to do. And moreover, way funnier.

They should allow developers to flag individual trophies as "yes notification / no notification," as well as "no screenshot / yes screenshot / yes 30 second video clip" on the PS5. Some story related trophies can distract from the emotional experience and should be silent, most progression-related trophies should notify you but don't need a screenshot, and the trophies that involve you doing something absurd could definitely use a clip to remember them by.

I would trade in having screenshots for 75% of trophies for having a video clip of the one trophy that required me to jump a car into a low-flying helicopter while eating a burrito or whatever.

I don't think he should use them for Quick Looks, because a Quick Look has a format to be adhered to. There have to be standards!

That said, I don't consider any solo stream to be a real Quick Look anyway. So I'm unhappy with all of this.

Note: I am not actually unhappy with all of this
