GOTY 2013

List items

  • The fan-fucking-tastic combat alone would make this my game of the year. Scaling a dragon so you can get at his heart. Ricocheting magic arrows through a corridor to obliterate some undead. Calling a meteor shower down on some unsuspecting goblins. Every class is a blast to play so you never feel like you've made a poor choice.

And then there's the story. Seems fairly average at first, until you think you've beaten the game. What's next? Total. Fucking. Insanity.

I am STILL playing this game. I STILL find myself thinking about this game when I'm not playing it. I will buy new games and then set them aside so I can play more Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.

    GOTY.

  • I don't understand everyone hating on the combat. Maybe I just love the Bioshock combat in general, but I felt that every scenario was intense and I was never dissatisfied with my options for dealing with said scenario, or how events played out. Top that off with an excellent story told using some fantastic characters, and this is almost my GOTY.

  • Maybe the best puzzle game I have ever played.

  • One of the few games this year that I would start playing and then just lose track of time. Unbelievably good. You just keep wanting to do one more mission...

  • Beautiful. Don't know how this isn't the best looking game. I guess I need to listen to some podcasts to know who needs a beatdown.

  • Excellent setting, tense gameplay, great characters, and some wicked-cool storylines.

  • Felt so badass popping into strike mode and wasting bitches Gundam style.

  • Loved the humour and the sense of style. It was hilarious that you could just run up to an enemy and then jump in the air and it would go into an aerial takedown. tight combat all around.

  • I would place this higher, because I LOVE DX:HR, but it feels like a bit of a cop out considering this is more of an update than an expansion. Still couldn't justify placing it below the next game on my list...

  • Found to game to be tedious at best. Makes the ten spot because I only played 10 games from 2013 this year, and that includes a Director's Cut of an old game. I liked the premise of Don't Starve, but something just didn't click for me.
