Who here likes Power Rangers?

So while on my vacation, I thought I'd start up watching Power Rangers again. Last time I watched seasons 1 and 2, but then stopped on Season 3 about half-way through.

Season 3 is the season before Power Rangers Zeo, which is the season that I CAN'T WAIT to get to. However it's now been about two years since I last watched those seasons, lol. So it's been a while. Although I had started up season 3 again no less than three times, but never completed it. Hopefully fourth time's the charm!

I've always been a fan of Power Rangers though. I can't beileve it is still going. Some of the newer stuff is insane. Like Power Rangers SPD, Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder. Those are the seasons that I can't wait to get to. The special effects are pure madness. I remember reading an interview with the producer of SPD, and him saying that he was literally pushing Disney as far as they could to create bigger and bigger explosions. He said he had gone up to feature film degree and kept pushing to see how far he could go. So awesome.

But I know there are several pretty lame ones as well after Power Rangers In Space (which is one of my favorites) but I plan on sitting through all of them just to see them and give them a shot. I haven't even seen a glimpse of what they've done in the last year or two. The last new one I even saw was "Mystic Force" which seemed pretty stupid.

Anyone else here a fan of the Power Ranger series? And if so what was your favorite season? Is there anyone that never stopped watching it and remains a fan from the good ol' days? It came out in '93 in America so I know many kids here are barely even the age of the series. Which is insane.

" How could anyone hate The Tick ? You have no soul or are ignorant of the shows existence good sir.  Power Rangers was nothing more then dubbed footage of some Japanese Kids show with clips of American teenagers teaching lessons in morality.  It's only entertainment value was purely camp and for the youngsters that were just weened off Barney and Friends who's minds weren't ready for the subtle nuances of Rocko's Modern Life.    Also you dissed the greatest kid's show ever, Batman the Animated Series. It was well written and didn't dumb it down for the children unlike Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.  My freaking mom actually enjoyed the show and would watch it even if I wasn't around. I recently picked up the entire series on DVD and that show still holds up today. In my opinion Kevin Conroy is the best Batman and Mark Hamil is the best Joker. "
Actually I didn't diss it I just forgot to reply to it. Obviously Batman was fantastic. But I enjoyed the 90's Spider-Man series more. To this day Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy will always be the only proper Batman and Joker's. Rocko's Modern Life was a good one, I actually liked that one. Hated The Tick.

Duuuude. Zeo and Space were the best! :P When Jason, the original Red Ranger, came back as the Gold Ranger in Zeo..... That is the episode I am MOST looking forward too.

" I loved power rangers but barely watched any of the seasons oddly enough. I remember watching the season 1, 2, turbo, and Wild Force like a die hard fanatic. If I remember my childhood correctly, I think Cartoon Network took up most of my time. LONG LIVE TOONAMI "
Hahaha, awesome. I stopped watching with a season or two before Wild Force. Toonami honestly was a little after my time. By the time it hit I had kinda stopped watching the kids programming sadly. And although i thought Toonami was awesome, I didn't actually watch it like my little bro did. I do think it was incredible kids programming though. The whole Toonami theme, especially the fact that he actually did videogame reviews, was exactly how they should do it for kids. Cause it was done in a very cool and intelligent manner.

Hahahaha, I hated that Turtles show so much because of all the cheesiness. If they would've made it a bit less goofy it would've been cool (the girl Turtle didn't even bother me). I guess I had just always been spoiled by the edgy Turtles from the original movie that I wasn't able to get into anything beyond Turtles 2 the movie (where it digressed into the goofy mood). Although I remember I did eventually start watching that Turtles show. I do recall the crossover but it was only cool in concept and I didn't really care for that episode. But I loved In Space.

What you need to be watching is mother fucking Kamen Rider.

"
A MILLION TIMES YES! ^5  Though I watch Kamen Rider and Super Sentai more now, I watched all of MMPR and portions of series after that and loved it. I loves me some tokusatsu goodness. "
Because I'm not an anime fan and I've yet to really watch subbed anime, I've also yet to watch Sentai. I do plan on doing it eventually but I think i'll finish the American Power Rangers first, before I get into the Japenses stuff. Heard nothing but good things though and I love the fact that it isn't kids programming per se. I watched an episode that had blood, real guns, and cursing. I believe it was the original Power Rangers from which we got our MMPR (first season). But one of my favorite aspect of Power Rangers is the sparks that shoot out when they are hit, along with the explosions. And in the Japanese Sentai from what I've seen they actually hit each other. They couldn't do that in America as much so that's why they did the sparks. And to me that was and is one of the things I love about it. Gives it just an awesome feel. Hits really have impact when sparks fly out. ^_^ But yeah, definitely plan on watching Kamen Rider and all the rest some day!

If you're a fan of tokusatsu and a fan of strategy RPGs, it doesn't get better than Banpresto's alternative to the Super Robot Wars games, "Super Tokusatsu Taisen 2001" for the Playstation!  A giant crossover game featuring several iterations of Super Sentai, various Kamen Rider iterations, various Ultraman iterations, and a few of the live-action giant robot shows of years past such as Giant Robo and Red Baron.  Old meets new, all that jazz, it's tokusatsu through the years in an epic, yet extremely difficult SRPG!

Unfortunately, they haven't made a new game since 2001. They've mostly been working on Super Robot Wars games, they seem to be easier to incorporate into stuff.

I loved Power Rangers. I still have a vhs where he becomes the white ranger. I think he was the green ranger first, and as the white ranger he had a sword that could talk.  It did not air in my country, but I somehow got to see the first 2 seasons. I was totally disappointed when they changed rangers. The music is still f-ing fantastic imo.

Hahahaha, awesome! I'm surprised at how many girls I've seen that are still fans of Power Rangers. Actually it's not that surprising, given that they like anime and a lot of times think the guys are cute or whatnot. But it's always interesting to hear a girl's perspective. :)

Power Ranges was pretty good for a couple seasons, in a so bad it's good way. After that though, it went downhill.

What angers me is that now they're re-airing the old episodes with super random crap added in (like once when Bulk fell over "Epic Fail" appeared on screen) and they're trying to pass it off to youngsters as new.

Awesome. I've read about his MMA deal. I'd definitely be interested in watching a match with him in it. Oh yeah man! Who doesn't remember "play fighting" as a kid? I did Power Rangers as well, but also other things like Mortal Kombat and my own characters I created. Those were the days . . .

I don't watch TV so I haven't seen this, but that seems pretty . . . odd. I'll have to check it out. Still, you gotta give the youngsters a break. Just cause it's old doesn't mean you can't add some more pizazz to it and update it for a new generation.

TOTALLY. It saddens me to no end that they  haven't done this yet. I want to see some killer extras as well. If any of you have seen clips from the Power Morphicon Power Rangers con they've had, you'd see that the old actors have still done things for the show including the roundtables at the con. So Id' hope that they'd do some commentary, extended interviews, etc. for the DVD seasons. Hopefully now that Saban has the rights to it, they'll put those DVDs out. I'd DEFINITELY buy them. I'm not a pirater by any stretch of the imagination, but to get Power Rangers you have to pirate it . . . I would stop if they sold it legally. So hopefully they will. I just HOPE HOPE HOPE that they do not cheap ass their way with them and just slap them on a disc with no features. That'd suck so bad . . .

Power Rangers is a little too childish, and it's just an Americanization of what the Japanese had been doing much better:

Yay! lol. That's so awesome. So let me ask you a question, as a little kid girl, what drew you in about the show? Just the cuteness of the guys? Cause girls rarely come to these type of shows because of the martial arts/fighting/action, which is what drew the boys in. I mean I remember, after watching any episode of Power Rangers or the Turtles movie, etc., we'd all run outside and start play fighting with each other. But girls generally dont' do that. Only exception being to join in with the guys and feel included, so they'd "fight too". So what drew you to Power Rangers?

And yes! I miss it so much too. I just watched the episode "Potion Notion" on season 3, and it shows Tommy and Kimberly holding hands in the beginning, and a cupid monster makes a lot of the Rangers and school faculty fall in love with each other (including Kimberly with Skull, lol). It's a pretty good episode but man, I MISS those days of seeing Tommy and Kimberly holding hands and then wondering if they were really dating or not cause they rarely acknowledged it in the show! :P Then I recall the episode from season 1 or 2 (think it's 1) where it actually shows them kiss. But I remember that they NEVER re-aired that episode. I think it's because Power Rangers eventually got more "kid focused" than "teen focused" and they started downplaying the high-school teen drama angle. But I remember as a kid, I was like, "I swear they kissed in one episode! I know they did!" but I wasn't sure cause I never saw that episode again. lol.  So I always wondered if they were REALLY a couple or if it was all in our imaginations and we just though they were lol.

Funny thing is, I think I find Aisha (Karan Ashley ) much more attractive nowadays (I'm 25) than I do Kimberly (Amy Jo Johnson). But back in the day, it was Kimberly all the way. She was like the hottest thing we'd ever laid eyes on.  lol.

True. But Power Rangers also has it's own charm IMHO. Granted I haven't seen the Japanese stuff. Even though I'm sure it rocks, I don't think it'll ever be a "replacement" for what Power Rangers is. Even if I do wish it was less childish and more like the Turtles 1 movie that had a lot of edge to it.

Nearing the half-way mark of season 3. I still think that Lord Zedd is one of the greatest villains ever made. He looks cooler than heck. Very few designs that compete with how cool he looks IMHO in any media.

WRONG! If you'd done some research, you'd have found out that Austin St John (Jason) is a paramedic, not a murderer! The murderer you're thinking of was an extra who only appeared in one episode. Unfortunately, Thuy Trang (Trini) is indeed dead, car crash in 2001. :(
