GOTY 2012

List items

  • Spot on mechanics, liked the concept, world and size is lacking compared to other games but the it's delivered in a way which leaves room for interpretation where it's fun to interpret ( the world, the outsider, magic, Piero...etc) and gives you closure/enough info on things that are directly related and likely important to most players ( Emily, the antagonists, Corvo... etc ). Bit to small but compared to other games this year i think it's the best.

  • Hands down the best Deus Ex games i have ever both mechanics and level design wise, and the added 3rd person mode made it even greater. Only that it wasn't Deus ex, it was fucking Hitman, and if there is 1 game i love more than stealth or strategy game that is Hitman. So overall great games but can't help but fell a bitter taste due to level "spreading" for optimal console use and the fact that it simply... wasn't hitman, it was a cover based stealth game.

  • Terribly imbalanced, you could spell out "BUG" if you had 1 pixel for every single major game breaking bug there was in this game... but the concept is great and it has the advantage of being the only decent AAA game in it's genre in the last 4 billion years thus you can't compare it to a whole lot. Have to give it 3rd placed after it got me to play hundreds of hours to finish ironman on impossible.

  • Again, not a great game but a great genre and a great concept. And quite frankly, once again, it had no opponent except a few games such as Endless space or WMOTA which were limited due to being indie devd. In my honest opinion it made Civ 5 better than Civ 4 and it's the best late-night time sink when you are to sick/lazy/don't have where to go out and just want to listen to some podcasts and have a few drinks.

  • Might as well be war of the roses here, but i only played this one so this one gets the spot. And for the 3rd time... it gets it due to the concept. Also relatively skill based and extremely "meaty" and fun combat. Add to that the fact that the community for it seems to be nice compared to other FP multiplayers, not a very hard thing to do and not entirely the games merit but it counts in mp only games.

  • Above average RPG, continued the story in the nice way up until the next moment when EA decided they weren't allowed to do an ending or the devs simply didn't understood their own game and thought it was the case of " It's the journey that matters no the destination"... when it clearly fucking wasn't.

Weapons/power progression was good tho and the combat was decent.

  • For a f2p game it's great. The shooting, the skill cap and the customization option are all greater than the ones in COD/Battlefield. It's rather imbalanced if you don't pay up or play a lot, but it wasn't at release... so thought luck to newcomers i guess :/ At least you can pay 60$ and than not be forced to buy map packs and level up weapons like it's 2 major "competitors".

  • Again, it was the concept that matter. Pretty poor game but much more funnier than a generic fighter/shooter/whatever and due to lack of competition it earns it's spot.

  • Great game for what it was but personally i find it repetitive, easy and story lacking compared to my ideal "action RPG". Than again, I don't like most titles in that genre in general.

  • I liked the combat, but the crafting ruined the looting and you would get overpowerd from doing sidequest even on the lowest difficulty. To add to that the ending was lackluster, the story was to spread out and the quest were to grind-ish even with the great combat system.

Didn't think it was what it could have been, had it been done properly, but i can't help felling very sad it doesn't get a sequel.
