I replayed CoD4 and MW2 recently, having not played the campaigns since shortly after they released. I don't generally find games I played after the age of ten nostalgic, but after completing those two I felt the oddest sense of saudade.
I like the N64, but it is without a doubt the worst of the successful consoles. It's right in the area between hardware-enforced simplicity and capable hardware. Its games were forced to be graphically impressive enough to run like trash, while being muddy enough to not be graphically impressive.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: Commander Keen is better than Mario. Keen has a raygun. Keen can stick a landing. Keen had a hidden language before Phil Fish was born.
