The comments on this episode should be turned off.
The amount of people in here saying that the GB crew shouldn't be discussing ArenaNet stuff to begin with is embarassing. The conversation is important to have because it has large-scale implications for the future of labor in this industry. Asking to silence those conversations is just as poisonous as contradicting them completely and if that's the stance you're taking, you don't deserve the games in front of you to begin with, especially if any of you are still trading this "the customer is always right" nonsense.
There's a few interesting comments in this thread but the lot of you should be ashamed. Imagine putting as much effort into literally anything else in your life as you do mulling over how a woman dared to voice her opinion in a debate meant for that and only that.
@floydeo: Thanks!! I did just about all of the art. c:
For those with issues re: color schemes—I heavily stand by the yellow and blue being the correct one for the game's tone but a black and white option will be patched into the game shortly. Some folks have experienced slight dizzyness so we're looking to offer an option for that. <3
The audio guy for one of the games I'm working on performs in this gang, haha. He's a big fan of Giant Bomb, I wouldn't be surprised if this was his doing.
@aurahack: i'd have to watch the whole video but i'd assume they're referring to the more, uh, seemy and perverse fan creations. in any case there's a lot of strong opinions with anything like this; it seems invariably that the giant bomb staff is typically not allowed to have them and have to be deferential in pretty much everything or risk a backlash. i find the fandom for this game charming personally... to a point.
Dan talks about a forum user who mentioned being excited at hearing what Ana's lines of dialogue were going to be when in presence of Pharah, then both of them proceeded to say people like that are silly.
The staff has every right to their opinions but you're missing the last point I made in my comment. Them having these opinions isn't wrong, them being so heartless in sharing them is what gives others the impression that it's okay to think that and subsequently mock others for it.
I wouldn't have followed anyone on the staff for as long as I do if I didn't enjoy their joking spite at so many things in life, but sometimes they can be just fuckin' mean and this is one of those times.
Jeff and Dan throwing the community under the bus was kind of shitty. People are having fun drawing fan art and writing fiction. Like if its not your thing fine but being all nose up in the air about it is really lame.
Shitty, to say the least.
I babbled about it on Twitter on for a while but straight up: that was fucking hurtful. I can't speak for why others make or consume fanfic but it's really hard to find media that I can relate to and enjoy on a personal level. I'm not "taking things to far" by trying to find happiness and comfort in characters I like act the same way I do with my girlfriend.
It makes me and others happy. Using the site's content as a platform to mock people for that is garbage, especially given how prone users are here to picking up what the staff says as the word of the law. It's easy to see it as harmless when you can say "Just ignore them and like what you like", but that's much more difficult when someone inevitably mocks you because someone they looked up to said that was an okay thing to do.
