Is the obatarian thing a commonplace gag in Japan or is sega straight up "homaging" Downtown Gaki No Tsukai's Obachan bit?

Coverage of this game has been really annoying. I don't know if the game is good or not, but the concept of "this type of game is outdated" is just stupid and counter-productive, especially when it's been proven wrong so many times in the past.
