Top 10 for 2011

  • I haven't beaten the main story yet, but I'm pretty sure I've already spent more time on this than anything else this year.

  • Of course, a sequel wasn't going to blow our minds again like the first Portal did. But Valve managed to successfully expand the scope of both story and gameplay while sticking to the ideas of the original.

  • Great Batman game, even if it isn't a great Batman story.

  • I got almost to the end of the first DX, but never beat it. I recently played Invisible War for about half an hour and understood why no one liked it. I loved this game, terrible boss battles aside. I even managed to get the Pacifist achievement.

  • I thought it started kind of slow, but got better and better and ended so strong. And that soundtrack!

  • I don't know how well it'll hold up, or even if we'll see anything like it again, but I was definitely wowed with it while playing through. I really dig anything like this with a realistic historical setting.

  • I don't play many co-op games, and I really don't like tower defense, so I was surprised that this one got its teeth into me like it did. Of course, it helped that playing with others online allowed me to stick to an all-out offense assault chassis, so I could just roll up with a machine gun, a grenade launcher and an artillery cannon and be all "SUP? *BRRRRRRRRRRRRRBOOMBOOMBOOMKAPOW*"

  • I missed out on YDKJ in its 90s heyday, so for an enthusiast of trivia and razor-sharp comedy writing like me, this was a real treat (and continues to be--still lots of episodes on the disc I haven't played through). Even the direction of the episodes is great; the stinger music for the Jack Attack and how it transitions into the final scores gets me every time.

  • Loved this game, but with there was more to it (no New Game+?!)

  • This was the last game I beat of the year. I'm just not as blown away with it as other people are (I actually played through SR2 in summer of 2011, so maybe it's fresher in my mind), but I have to admit that as I write this I'm kind of hooked on doing all the side stuff. Also, the "Daedalus" ending, which I didn't choose the first time, totally blows the other ending out of the water and pretty much saved saved it a spot on my list.
