An improvement over the first Two Worlds, on PC at least. Not awesome by any stretch, but fun enough. Not sure about consoles, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was horribly ported, though there is that one positive review by Angry Joe for the Xbox 360.

It's okay for PC with a few patches. The port is horrible and is where most of the bad reviews are directed towards. The voice acting is bad in any version though.

It's okay, but Risen one is a lot better, unless you really want the pirate theme. Main problem is that it's way too long with little variety. Avoid the console versions though.

Count me as a fan, There are plenty of American fans, but you probably won't find them on a more general gaming site like this. You'd have to go to sites that specifically deal with PC games or Western RPGs. I love that the first game is basically a prison drama in a high fantasy setting. The second game is great too. Haven't played Gothic 3, but I heard it's decent if patched. I agree with the above poster that the combat is weird and takes a while to get used to, but apparently a lot of German games have awkward combat systems.

Played the game again with patches, and love just as much as I always did. The fist time I played it, I messed up the main quest objective order by entering the Vendigroth ruins too early. I still enjoyed the hell out of it, but the game felt ruined for me since I didn't want to have to use a guide, so I never completed it. But with Project Eternity coming out this year, I got in the mood to try it again, and I'm glad I did.

Apart from the setting, I love the freedom, multiple paths, hidden areas, and the large number of possible followers, some of whom will only join you with the right dialogue choices. Yeah, the combat isn't the greatest, but it's passable. Great game overall, and while I can understand why some people wouldn't like it, I hope they at least try it for themselves and not just blindly follow someone's negative opinion.

Yup. Arcanum has terrible combat. Still love the game for everything else though,

Pretty good list, even though I don't completely agree with the order and I'd  put in one of the Gothic games instead of NWN. Good to see no Mass Effect or Dragon Age on it.
