Hmm, oya the guy doing XP11 quick was on a WR pace until his power went out when his son plugged in a 40 ft tall UWU dancing robot. Kids these days! He was only like 2 airports away from beating XP11. I hear he cancelled his Prepar3d Boat run because of this.

It does seem sometimes that the coverage choices are kind of strange. I think there is validity to people saying fighting games get over covered. I actually super enjoy Jeff's Misterthons. I would say I wish they covered more strategy, simulation, and puzzle games. I think there used to be more of it. We get plenty of weird game coverage now. I don't dislike fighting games so I don't really mind in general about that.

The only thing I actually wish for is more features rather than quicklooks of things. Like I'd rather they make another multipart feature like Super Mario Sunshine and the like rather than quicklooks of strategy games. Thats something I look forward to.

I feel like I felt like this the most when I tried to follow what other people thought were hot games. I think when you have more disposable income (vs. being a broke teenager) its easy to get sucked in when someone is very enthusiastic about something and you try to play it to discover why, and get that same enthusiasm. Then when you don't, its easy to be self critical and think you just don't love games anymore.

For me this peaked when I was maybe 28, I was buying so many games and just not getting into them because I was trying to follow the hot titles. Some games in that group I loved, like I think I picked up Hot Line Miami during that time and it was great. And I still play Xplane today and am super into it, but like I haven't touched 90% of the hours in those games just because I bounced off and thats ok.

I'm 31 now, and like now I have slightly more expenses for various reasons and I know myself better. Like instead of buying another "hot" game, I'm more likely to buy DLC for something I already love. The games I do buy, even when on sale, are ones I'm pretty sure I'll love, and as a result I'm much more enthusiastic now then when I was not being true to myself. I assumed then it was me just not liking games as much, but in reality I never loved games like Mordor even as a kid.

@fisk0:

I know, after that first "we're making a ten year game" and then like just garbage, and they never deliver on it. The shooting was nice, like its in some ways a travesty it went the way it did but yeah I still haven't played Destiny 2 because I just felt so burned, and they never even addressed that. I'm not easily made bitter but yeah Destiny did it lol.

It's a bummer, but I wish him luck. It's hard to stick around any work for as long as he did. I still remember where I was when I heard the first Dan episode on the Bombcast and it was amazing. When you think about how long it's been, we're really lucky.

I'm still stoked for 2020 though, I really enjoy every one of the remaining crew. Initially listening to Jeff, Ryan, Vinny, Brad, Drew, and Patrick got me through some pretty rough times, and at times it was the only thing I looked forward to. Thats all changed now thankfully (I mean when a podcast is keeping you going...), but I don't think I'll ever feel tired about the site. I'm sure Jeff will make moves to get another personality on the site if it really requires it. I mean think about how critical and like objective Jeff is, if we think we care more about this than him we're out of our minds. I mean he showed us Dan haha. I think we should trust that it'll all be ok.

Another thing I'm thinking now is that the end of year videos being different this year makes a little more sense if Dan was leaving. Maybe those are related directly.

Playing a lot of Hearts of Iron 4 lately. When I first bought it, I just kept getting destroyed and gave up without seeing any of the depth (like I bet many do). But maybe a month ago I had been watching a documentary series on WW2 and was inspired to get back in. Its a very realistic World War 2 sandbox. There's a lot of cool mods, and its more approachable than previous games. It is truly challenging, like it takes a concise plan to win, and like you'll have wins and losses just like a real life war, its not just like a build-to-tipping-point game like maybe other strategy games can kind of be(where its hard, then easy). It feels like running a company where crises boil up, and different things are challenging at different times. I am 40 hours into a playthrough as Germany. Not a fan of 1930s Germany (just to be klar) but it is a hard nation to win as and a fun gameplay puzzle in that regard.

I've had 2 failed invasions of North America, I've conquered the UK. I've rounded up the WW1 axis forces plus Japan and USSR and we're winning, its 1949. Currently training 100 divisions to invade America while simultaneously building 13 aircraft carriers. It is kind of scary. Every other play through things went roughly like history or worse for Germany. This is like the 5% chance nightmare scenario playing out and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

I noticed that I refreshed today and it said the CSRF token was expired after refreshing, but it was probably just a sessioning hiccup. I'll reply again if I see it happening continually.
