@Jack268: I'm pretty stoked for that too, seems like they added a lot to UMvc3.
I could see Capcom doing the early unlock thing, I don't think they are foolish enough to think that "non-disc Gems" are a good idea. But if they don't intend for it to be a tournament game, which is possible, then it really doesn't matter how they distribute the gems.
Since it's been announced there has been quite a kerfuffle about the Gem system being "pay to win" or effectively breaking the game for competitive players and the tournament scene. Exclusive DLC gems, if they turn out to be exclusive and not just early unlocks of gems that are on the disc, is certainly bordering on a huge cash grab.
I'll still be picking this one up because I have no delusions of ever being competitive at any fighting game and it looks fun as hell, specifically with the gem system. It seems like a carbon copy of runes in League of Legends (and I'm sure other comparisons can be made) which I really enjoy.
Not officially but more or less it seems to be. Dexter and I talked about starting up a league with the people who were active in this one for those who wanted to start over and keep going. I haven't officially closed this one but it seems that the majority of communication between everyone has been "I can't get a hold of my opponent."
@Troispoint: We started out slow and delayed the first week because people were generally unresponsive to any sort of news or requests to play their games. We wanted to give the people who were interested the chance to have a good experience.
I'd imagine since the original was a PS3 exclusive and From's doing this one as well, a lot was ported over for development of Dark Soul's. I'd go with PS3.
