GOTY 2012

List items

  • Unlike Diablo 3, I avoided most of the coverage of this game. This probably contributed to me liking it a whole heck of a lot more. Great shooting, unique humour, interesting enemies, significant character progression choices (NUKE TURRET) and a million times better with friends. Of all the RPGs on this list, Borderlands 2 hits all the right notes for me. I'm looking to get back in for another go if anyone's interested (XBOX Live Tag: Esteven713).

  • What a surprise of a game. I loved the story of this game and it has all the fun (addictive) RPG trappings that you'd want. Came back to this for the DLCs a little later in the year and still found it very enjoyable. I also took the recommendation from some fellow Bombers to avoid the sidequests when they start to wear on you. The faction and main quest still make this a huge excellent game.

  • I finished the back third of this game in one long Saturday sitting. I forgot to eat all day and rushed toward the end (wanted to see what all the talk was about). I was incredibly bummed that night as the credits rolled and made dinner for myself at 2 am because I couldn't sleep. Going back to it now for some of the DLC, I do appreciate the rest of the game. I think its probably got the second best third-person shooter controls (behind the Gears of War series). Between the squad members, powers and the mechanics of tearing down shields/barriers/amor, I have a lot of fun with this as a shooter.

  • Pre-ordered this for 360 after hearing Vinny's reception on the Bombcast (and QL). Excellent storytelling and some interesting mechanics that set it apart from other games of its kinda.

  • Played these in pretty quick succession a week ago because of the hype. A powerful game. Hoping this encourages storytelling of its kind in future games.

  • My expectations for this game were simply too high (having to wait over ten years for a sequel to one of your favourite games will do that). It's really fun but the story and character building (or lack thereof) keep me from coming back.

  • I played this for the first time this year. Great game but took a break at Sen's Fortress (out of frustration). Hoping to get back to this during the Holidays.

  • I had fun with this, but I wasn't a fan of the loot system and it took too long to get going. If only all the dungeons could be as inventive as they are towards the end.

  • Reminded me I really want a proper sequel to Alan Wake (as unlikely as it may be). The arcade mode is throw-away, but I can recommend this if your looking for more of the first game.

  • Great multi-player game I played with a friend who recommended to me. Not so good playing alone.
