I started gaming in the mid-80s on the NES. I switched to the Genesis console, and stuck with SEGA through the Sega CD and the Sega Saturn. After I got into my first serious relationship at fifteen, I stopped gaming all together. When that relationship ended at sixteen, my dear mother bought me a copy of Redneck Rampage to help me get over the break up. From then on, I was exclusively PC gaming. I played every FPS I could find, from Doom to Half-Life, until I turned eighteen, and a couple of my friends started talking about this game called Everquest.
At first, I shunned Everquest because it seemed "lame". Compared to the fast paced FPS games I was used to, Everquest seemed like watching grass grow. Then I hopped onto my friends account and tried it, I made my own account that night. I played a Warlock for several years on The Rathe Server. After I quit Everquest, I moved onto Planetside. The idea of an FPS MMO seemed tailor made for me. Unfortunately, I quickly lost interest in the game, making it the first MMO I quit before reaching max level. During all these MMO games I would take a break to play the new hot Single Player game, like Grand Theft Auto 3 and Half-Life 2. Still, I played smaller MMOs like City of Heroes while rumors of the World of Warcraft beta spread.
After City of Heroes, I started playing World of Warcraft, got into my second serious relationship, and spent around five years in Azeroth. During that time I'd occasionally get tired of playing MMOs, so I went out and bought myself a new console, my first since the Sega Saturn. The simplest reason for my buying a Playstation 2 over an Xbox was Grand Theft Auto. Sony had six months of exclusivity, and I knew from my PC days that I'd play the hell out of GTA:VC and GTA:SA. So for a year and a half, I raided in WoW and played the PS2 whenever I felt burned out. Inevitably the day came when my friends got sick of WoW and quit playing, my then Fiance and I split, and instead of being bummed, I found myself simply buying more PS2 games. That is where my collecting began.
