PS3 is inferior to Xbox 360?

Yes it is... Maybe... No, I'll wait for GT5 before making final judgment, but as it stands now,  Xbox 360 seems like much better gaming console.
I can't understand why the PS3 can't upscale the picture on (some of ?) the games to 1080P, instead of leaving that task for TV. Xbox does this and it works better. Also playstation has nasty habit of switching the sound out put signal from digital stereo to Dolby now and then (like when leaving a game and entering the ps3 desktop screen).

I love PS3 as a blu-ray player but when it comes to gaming, it feels just like there is something wrong with it. It feels like device that can play games but was never intended to do that. I fear that I might have bought Atari Jaguar again...
Exclusives that I have tested so far, have not really impressed me and every multiplatform game I have tested, was better on the 360 (apart from Burnout Paradise). To me it seems clear that PS3 has bigger problems than developers doing bad ports for the system.

This type of post is about 3 years too late.

But on topic....I have a great eye for quality. Thankfully, I don't fully concentrate on counting how many pixels are on the screen when I'm trying to avoid getting my (virtual) head blown off.

Whoever says one is better than the other is retarded. They both have pros and cons which make them the same in greatness. And that goes for practically any system.

Yeah... Those tiny pictures of a Japanese menu screen look totally different... This was absolutely worthy of posting to the forums...

Yeah, because those PS3 problems got fixed back then...

Aren't we past this whole graphical wang waving thing? That was fine back in the days when consoles didn't have a whole to to latch into other than which one performed better than the other.  But in this day and age (especially with a longer console cycle) there is so much more to a system than simply graphical prowess.

As an owner of both a PS3 and a 360 I find myself preferring the 360 hands down. This preference boils down to the design of the controller, the achievement system, the quality of downloadable games, and the way XBLA handles in general. The PS3 gets a ton of use for blu-rays (and netflix until I sprung for a Roku), but as gaming system I only own two games for it whereas I have a nice shelf full of 360 games. That being said I really couldn't give a shit  if someone preferred the PS3 to the 360, it's their console of joice who are we to judge? Enjoy gaming folks, life is too short.

@charlie_victor_bravo: Not really. More because people have accepted each console for what it is, supposed warts and all. HD-DVD? Other OS option? Both great ideas in concept, yet were scrapped. Somehow, people still keep buying the consoles.

Mega Drive 32x Mega CD FTW!!!!!!

I'll say what I heard from the tech guys at my uni (I study video games). Basically the xbox has a built in upscaler, so although it can upscale to 1080p, it doesn't actually produce it. The PS3 does not have this feature therefore most games are 720p.

In a test a university did it turns out the Xbox 360 can't actually produce full 1080p. They got 4 pixels, 2 black and 2 white and set the output to be 1080p. The PS3 displayed it as it was, 2 white and 2 black. However the 360 ended up producing many pixels with some appearing gray. Therefore in the tech world, the PS3 is superior, but in the real world it doesn't really matter at all.

Exactly! Almost brought a tear to my eye! I love you!

Tbf, all multi platform games and coded for xbox and then ported across to PS3, hence the graphical superiority, that and the fact that very few Devs make use of the Cell processor for graphics instead opting for the built in GPU that was never meant for much else than a back up/delegate.
I myself own both also, and I prefer my PS3. My xbox only gets use when I want to play Mass Effect 2, which I will soon be able to do on my PS3 :D

The Commodore 64 makes Crysis look like a text game.

The PS3 is a great console. I prefer the 360, mostly because the games I like best generally have played better on that console, or (like Mass Effect) have been (until now) Xbox exclusives. But PC graphics are so much better than both consoles that the difference between the two is virtually nonexistent. Aside from a few media features (which are almost equivalent now), there's hardly any difference. Can we finally all just move on from this? Jeez.

If anything, I hope we learn from all the time wasted on this argument and skip the silly bickering over which console is best when the next generation comes out.

@charlie_victor_bravo:  I agree with you on this. I've never taken part in any "console war" as I really don't give a shit about that stuff. People can and will play what they like, which is great. Just want to share my experiences here and don't want this to seem like I'm starting anything... Anyway I have both a 360 and a PS3 and really like them, but when you said it seems like something is wrong with the PS3 when it plays games is exactly how I feel. From my experience, the output just never looks quite right to me. Whether it's really over-the-top contrast or sharpness (with heavy jagged edges), to resolutions looking off, everything just seems like a hassle for it to output. I can change settings on my TV to try and remedy these things, but it never fully fixes anything and causes everything else to look like crap.

I don't know whether it's the console or the developers that lead to this as I'm playing through Metal Gear 4 at the moment and it looks OK. I also thought Killzone 2 looked great. But pretty much every other game I've played on the PS3 has such a hard and sharp upresed look to it. Even cross platform games that which look absolutely fine on the 360. It's odd because on paper, the PS3 is awesome. There's no arguing that it's powerful, but 99% of the time from what I've played games don't look very good.

I'd say the 360 is the better all-out gaming console right now (when you consider the dashboard and how quick updates are) and it's definitely the most user-friendly and inviting. But aside from these issues I mentioned, the PS3 is cool too.

Are people still arguing over which is better? Come on, don't you trolls have something better to troll about? Or at least something more current?

Thank you for being the many smart people who don't support this troll. It funny because I'm just like you but the other way around and as far as games goes i buy on ps3 but they both has great games that are pretty to look at so i have both systems easy answer.

Yeah I'm in the same boat here, I don't understand why some people are still stuck on which console is "Better". Both have great games and both do things differently than one another but I wouldn't say either is "Better", I prefer my PS3 because I love the exclusives, Blu-Ray and gaming on it in general.

I bought my girlfriend a 360 and it's great, and Viva Pinata is FUCKING AMAZING.

Does anybody really give a shit? Just buy one or the other. Or better yet, buy both. These arguments hold very little weight.

@PrivateIronTFU: Based on the views and comments, YES, people care about this.

Anyway, post was supposed to be a pondering about strange design decision made by Sony (who the hell puts that many video options in their player?!) and general feel of the system compared to the 360. I would really liked if there would have been reply in the style of "Dude just go to the display options -> Scaler -> Always on. "

The Wii is the best console. Kekekeke, would anyone like to spend an hour replying to my statement? Feel free to do so.

This is nothing more than  a Sega Saturn PSX situation. The XBOX 360 being the PSX and the Saturn being the PS3 in this case. They're both basically the exact same, except one decided on stupid hardware that is hard to develop for. And one gets way more exclusives because not every company wants to spend all its money developing their game for the stupid thing.

If I remember correctly, EA stopped dealing with Sega over that entirely. Which brought us 2k sports, which were actually better than EA sports..But whatever.
Blu ray is a thing I guess?  But really, they're pretty much the same thing. Two completely obsolete pieces of garbage. My 5 year old Desktop is better than them by far, and my cheap ass laptop I picked up on sale a few months ago is leaps and bounds more capable for gaming.

I think what I'm trying to say is I want another console generation so we can start these stupid console wars again, and because I'm bored with the current console generation.
