" Honestly lets face it: The industry is kind of fucked up.  3D, motion controls, DLC, timed exclusives,  Precise controls, NO CONTROLS, 3D handhelds, multimedia handhelds, remakes, revamps, Digital Distribution, blah blah fucking blah.  I like games but I remember being a kid and sitting down to play a game for hours not even caring who made it, let alone how one version looked better than the other.  I get that technology advances and the industry adapts to those changes but I don't get that same feeling I loved way back when. It was probably just childhood ignorance but I wish it would come back. I mean look at me talking about the "industry" like I'm some kind of fucking insider, it's lame.  I just wanna play video games. "
Video gaming has become a big social thing for me. I usually only play multiplayer games nowadays. Stuff like Left 4 Dead, Split/Second, and Rock Band have become staples for me. To see a great experience sullied by exclusivity agreements, preferred console content, and platform favoritism is sad but I guess we all just have to expect it nowadays. I'm just waiting for the day movies only give select scenes to certain theatres. That's basically what gaming has stooped to.

It is sad though, that 10-15 years ago if a game landed in my lap I'd just be a giddy young kid. Nowadays I am nitpicky and anal about if something doesn't have custom soundtracks. Sometimes getting old sucks.

I don't think you guys realize, I am NOT jumping ship. I am just weirded out that so many of my friends are. It's pretty sad that I just lost two great co-op buddies.

Is this what the industry is coming to though? Money talks but you would think developers would want to give the best experience to every gamer out there. I can understand graphical fidelity being better on a certain system but to include special maps and missions just due to console preference seems wrong.

When I am playing Mafia 2 this August I'm not going to care about what system I play it on, but I hope that we don't lose anything imperative to the story in the extra content Ps3 owners will be getting.

If Kevin Butler told me to buy a Ps3, I think I'd listen. That man...his words are like scripture.

" The PS3 owners are better how? As far as I know, a couple of those games just get special exclusive bundles that come with an older game in the series, and that may cost extra. Am I missing something here? "

No, it is the same cost from what retailers are saying. It is just a matter of platform preference as far as I know. This could be wrong, but that is what Amazon/Gamestop has them listed as.

So there I was yesterday, shocked at the Sony presser by the announcement that some of my most anticipated games will have the "best" version on Playstation 3. Mafia 2, Medal of Honor, and Dead Space are all getting gaming happy meals and the 360 is left in the dust. While I was dismayed, I wasn't convinced I should pick up a Ps3 just to play these special versions.

Then Portal 2 was announced with Steamworks and I got giddy inside. I thought about trading in my 360 for a Ps3 because I'm a huge Valve fan but then I calmed down and decided not to.

Not an hour later I'm on the phone with a friend, the third in a series of three who called me, asking me if I was going to jump ship to Ps3 because they were now offering the best versions of games and Portal 2 blah blah blah. Turns out a few of my friends are jumping ship to Ps3 in hopes of getting a better gameplay experience.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I mean, I love Portal 2 and Dead Space as much as the next guy but to trade in my current system just to play them on another with a few extras. Sure it is tempting but I didn't think announcements like that would have that sort of effect.  As of right now, two of my friends have made good on this and bought Ps3's. I'm just a bit shocked, has this been happening to other people?

On the Wii? I feel like this is a bunch of wasted potential.
