I did take my time in UDK

Well im still learning UDK, and other programs to. But i would like to show how far i come in my game in UDK. This clip is from April.
I haven´t had time to sit down to continue on with this game. But i will make it better and bigger :D As soon i get to spend some more time with my computer at home.
And theres no sound, so i just added som freebeats and lay upon.. Because the program i started recording with sucks :( next time it will be better.

I've been using UDK for about a year now and there's so much you can do with it. Your looking good so far, there are a lot of tutorials online to do stuff like mesh painting, stuff with kismets and material stuff.  If you want really good feedback on your work go to sites like polycount or gameartisans and just look at the work others are putting up.

Nice work. Like the mechanics and the design work. Wish it zoomed in during combat somewhat.

This is the first time I've looked at a top-down shooter and thought "Hey, that looks pretty cool!"

Well i would say its pretty easy to get started with pretty minimal experience.. The only thing you need is tolerance and patiance. And ofcourse the video tutorials that they give you for free at UDKs website.  So the time getting started all depends on youre english and easy to learn new things, and interfaces.

Its a pretty big editor or, theres like many diffrent kinds of programs in one. And if you know code its a plus, espesially if you know how to read and the essence of it. And there is allot of tutorials out there that makes it fun and easy to start using it. You can find all code on http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/UnrealScript If you wanna take a look or something. And yes i put some work in too it :D considering i have a standard job and did this on my spare time :S. (now its summer time so i try not to be inside to much)

So you don´t need to do all the modelling at first, i think that its more fun too learn what you can do with the program and so. If you not need to have a special character or a something. And don´t forget theres 3d modelling sites that gives away free 3d stuff that you can use :D.
But you can use all the 3d programs including Zbrush witch i love.

Photoshop and illustrator can be good to have some knowledge in.. If you wanna make youre own textures and materials.
I know you can use Actionscript to make menus and stuff, but i haven´t got that far in my own learning :D. But i will some day.

Hope i answerd youre questions and that my english grammar is okey  :S

How much time have you put into this and what did you know about anything you needed to know to make it before you started (programming, modelling, etc)?

I wanna look into UDK during my holidays, too. I know some C and C++ and modelling in CAD programs but except for some stupid snake-clone I've never actually made a game and want to know what to expect.
