I have very much failed to diversified my interests when it comes to gaming websites/podcasts since GB was the only one that seemed any good to me. They always seem separate from youtube/twitch/influencers end of things which always had the distinct reek of conflict of interest (free codes for coverage etc).
I hope the voice of whatever Giant Bomb ends up as isn't over because there is genuinely nothing else close.
Yeah... for me it was pretty much Idle Thumbs... 1up... Bombcast... when the first two went away, I just stuck with GB and the Bombcast. I don't know if I'd still follow games without the Bombast. I've been really into board games lately.. so I might just give up on paying attention after following the industry non-stop and daily for 20+ years.
That statement is encouraging... but holy crap... that Podcast was like a punch in the gut. I joined the site in 2012, but I've been listening to the podcast since beginning. I feel like... some good friends are moving out of town or something. Any one of those three announcements would have been devastating.. all three at the same time... wow. Man, end of an era. I'll be around for whatever is next, but it will never be the same. I'm still a bit shocked, I listen to the Bombcast on Wednesdays normally.. so I just finished it.
Are there even any videos of this thing in action?
everything I've seen so far, as a marketing push, is a CG render.
Nothing direct off screen or anything... but the images of the device and screenshots of what the games look like on the screen... and the fact that the company has a history of making pretty amazing hardware... that was enough to sell me. If they were some unknown company just putting out this device as their first product I would be VERY suspicious. These guys may suck a PR and apparently Web Store design (...or maybe load balancing..) but they make awesome hardware.
@regularassmilk: Have you seen the price of a GBA online these days. They go easily for over $100 and them being 15 plus years old, the screens are not doing the greatest and the batteries are harder and harder to come by. $200 just for the base product is honestly an amazing price.
Shhh! I don't want them to hear and mark up the price for the next batch!
It can perfectly play all GB, GBC and GBA games, on a high-res screen on a very slick device. If you have the dock, you can also output via HDMI to any TV. That is already interesting to me... but you can also buy adapters to play Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, Atari Lynx... and once it's released and somebody probably 'jail breaks' the thing... it will most likely play everything from anywhere. There is a very high possibility that you can eventually put an SD card in there with 1,000's of games (all of which you own a personal hard copy of... of course..) and play all kids of things. It's a pretty amazing device and a I really, really, really want one...
God DAMN, that was fast. I have had my eye on this thing for about 2 years... and then it sold out instantly while I was on a business conference call. I was about 20 minutes late I guess.
^&%* !! Apparently they are making more but man, I'm pissed I couldn't get in on the first batch. :(
This game is awesome, I highly recommend it. Even if I wasn't obsessed with Giant Robots since I was about 5 years old (starting with Robotech and Mazinger Z etc), I'd still love this game. I hope it's doing well because these guys deserve some success.
Who the fuck approved that image?! What were they thinking? Just, not even considering the subject matter, that is just an awkwardly horrible picture in general. It would be hard to make a person look more idiotic than that. Wow.
