@TheHBK: The graphics are what you would expect - really nice. Animations were pretty solid, going in and out of cover felt smooth and worked well. As for the framerate; it never dropped while I played the demo.

I've now fixed the spelling error. I'll never write a review while hungry, again....

The Mafia 2 demo hit Xbox Live today(Gold members only, this week), and I downloaded it as soon as I turned on my Xbox 360. I don't think I've ever expected so much of a demo before. The trailers I've watched and the articles I've read have really convinced me that Mafia 2 will truly be an amazing game.

The demo starts of with a cut scene explaining the mission you're about to take on. You play as the character Vito, who is supposed to take down this guy who's obviously on a bad note with the Mafia. You early on get the sense that Vito is new in "the family", and that this mission is for him to prove himself.

After the cutscene, you need to drive to a meeting spot. The driving in the demo feels heavy, and I guess that's what 2k was aiming for. Don't misunderstand me; "heavy" isn't bad. It's actually good, if you consider realistic sandbox games a good thing. The cars in the fifties were apparently not as easy to maneuver as today, so expect slower and heavier cars, than in GTA IV. However, I didn't do a whole lot of driving, so I don't feel completely authorized in give the driving a final sentence yet.

As you drive trough the city, you'll notice the fantastic atmosphere that 2k games have created. They've really done a great job creating the authentic feel of America in the fifties(as it's presented in the movies, anyways) It's also worth mentioning that the soundtrack(at least what I heard of it) was exactly what you would expect of a game set in the fifties. I listened to "Lucile" on my way to the mission... And honestly. Just when that song started playing on the radio, I wished that I had a time machine,could travel back to the fifties, join the Mafia, and kill that sun of a bitch who was messing with the mob. But then I figured I could do all that without getting killed on my Xbox 360, and thats why the Xbox is a better invention than what a time machine ever would be.

Anyways. When you reach the meeting point another cutscene follows, before you start blowing up cars  and killing (good?) guys. And I have to say that the shooting felt nice. You get to try out four weapons during the demo(pistol, heavy machine gun, semi automatic machine gun and shotgun), and they all felt pretty solid(the pistol could have a bit more power to it though) What I noticed was that the AI sometimes actually changed cover if you shot at them. Now that's something I've never seen in a sandbox game before. It has to be mentioned that this didn't happen every time, but I hope it's implemented one hundred percent in the full version of the game.

Now, after you've killed the guy, you have to escape the building before the cops get there. So there's a short driving sequence, before the demo ends. I won't spoil the actuall ending, as it was freakin' epic, and if that doesn't sell you the game, nothing will.

Overall, this demo is great. Despite it being short(about 25 minutes), it does what a demo is supposed to do, and that is to make you want to buy the game. Afther playing the demo, you really see what a great game Mafia 2 will be, and I honestly can't wait for it to hit the shelves.

Mafia 2 demo gets: 9/10

PS. There is actually porn in the demo. I'll leave it for you to find it(don't want to spoil the tension) but it surely helped boost the final rating.

@D0tti: PES 10 took some getting used to. However, I think the game is pretty decent. I would agree with your statement of the players being heavy and slow when I first played the game, but not now. Btw, PES 11 is supposed to be really good. You should check out some reviews.

@D0tti: Respect :D

PES has a lot of cheaters in the top 100, so the ranking doesnt really prove anything( a lot of people are lag cheating, and disconnecting in a way that doesnt affect their rating, if they lose) Hard to do anything about it really. All Konami can do is start banning players.

@swamplord666: lol, awsome!

Anyways... This kind of competing among friends, is usually within the sports games genre. It's easy to pick up and play, and if you enjoy the sport IRL, you never really get sick of the game. However, I did play PES 2009 a whole lot, to become that good:P

Everyone has a game they consider them selves being the best at. But being the best, isn't easy. First of all you need to have played it enough to consider yourself being great at the game. Then your friends need to see your skills in action, counter them, and then decide wether or not you're officially "the best". Because being officialy "the best" at a game, is something waaaay more satisfying than being just the best, in YOUR oppinion. When you're officialy "the best", every time someone talks about that game, your name will be mentioned(within a certain radius, of course)

Usually, your closest friends have they same interests as you. And if you like to play, let's say, the NHL series, your friends most likely play it to. What usually happens, is that everyone has played this game for hours and hours, and think that they're the best at it. But, they won't get it official unless they beat their friends. However, the catch here is, that it's not enough just beating your friends. You have to beat them countlesly, and by big numbers? Why? Because your friends will always come up with an explanation for why they lost. You picked a better team, the referee was on your side, they were hungry, they were tired, they had to pee, their mother was constantly passing the TV, their cat died in front of his eyes, etc etc. So what you have to do, is to win so many times, that there are no excuses left for your friends to blame their loss on. And frankly, that's impossible. So practically, getting an officiall approval by your friends, saying that you're the best at a game, will never happen. Never. There is a slight chance they will agree that you're good at it, but... Nah, just forget it. That won't happen either.

So what then? You can never really be officialy "the best" at a game? Well, there is a way. But it's long, though and sometimes laggy. If the certain game has an online ranking system, you might get away with being the best(of course, just among your friends. Well, unless you have no life and are freakin' number one on the ranking) However, if your friends are a bit catchy, they won't approve it. Why? Well, they never know if you cheated or not, maybe you get lucky and always play easy opponents, and so on. Now, the only thing left to do, is to compete. Compete? Yes. Many games actually have tournaments, and what you would like to do, is to enter the officiall tournament for that game. And win....Well, you don't have to win, just be sure to get an officiall rank. That way you will always, OFFICIALY, be better than your friends at that game. Always, For all eternity(try to get a trophy as well, so that you can rub it in)

Personally, I was officially "the best" at a game, among my friends. The game was Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. I was sick of all the excuses(the passing moms, dying cats, etc) that I actually signed up for the OFFICIALL Norwegian Championship in PES 2009. I reached the finals in the first tournament(I got a freakin' trophy!), and finished fourth in the final play off round(where the top three in the two past tournaments met to compete) So now my friends had noting left to say. Because I was officially the fourth best PES 2009 player in the whole country. And there was nothing they could do about it. .
