Seeing the strategic dismemberment thing online could be interesting but I think we'll just have to wait and see how this turns out. I just hope they don't do something like add a cover system or something weird like that.

The Legend of Zelda is without a doubt one of my favorite franchises and it easily got me into gaming. Basically I grew up as a Nintendo/Zelda fanboy but not the kind that would bitch about a Zelda game getting an 8.8… teehee. So for some reason I felt the desire to make top 5 list since I’ve been such a Zelda nerd all of my life… just watch the video and read below.Enjoy and by the way my choices are probably a little different from what most people think so if you don’t agree that’s fine just don’t hate yo. ;o

5. The Wind Waker
One of my favorite things about Wind Waker is the art style, the entire game is very colorful, cartoony and overall is just simply beautiful. All of the characters are unique looking and for the most part have very animated facial expressions, a quick example would be when link tenses up with fear and his eyes open widely when he hears a redead scream. The game in general still has the basic formula of most Zelda games but the fact that the game is set in The Great Sea rather then Hyrule already sets into place a few changes. Exploring the Great Sea is very different from exploring in Hyrule and while some people claimed sailing got tedious I think that there were enough islands and points of interest to keep things entertaining and with the Ballad of Gales you could skip most of the long journeys. Wind Waker does have a few flaws for example that ridiculous Triforce hunting quest but overall this game is just very charming, a ton fun and one of my favorite Zelda games.

4. The Legend of Zelda
Well… what can I say about this game? it’s the game that started everything for the Zelda franchise and at it’s time was simply mind blowing. A massive over world, a ton of a dungeons to explore and a crap load of items to collect… there was just a ton of stuff to do in the original LoZ. The game still holds up very well today and of course the fact that this game started it all I believe is reason enough for it to be on this list.

3. Majora’s Mask
A Zelda game with No Ganon, a 3-day time system and only four dungeons? Majora’s Mask is very different from your average Zelda game but still ended up being a great addition to the series. The story is very different from any Zelda game… the moon is about to crash into a town need I say more? The story is much darker then most Zelda games and having skull kid as the main villain was a welcome change rather then the usual Ganondorf. The time system, while I’m not a huge fan of it, (It’s kind of annoying having to restock all of my arrows and all that other garbage) it’s still very unique and goes along great with the story. Although there’s only four dungeons there’s still a lot of stuff to do in Termina… and by that I mean LOTS of side quests. I loved collecting the masks and getting to know more about the people of Clock Town by taking part in random side quests… for me it was all very addicting. So yeah… Masks, Side quests and a creepy looking moon… all good fun. That moon still scares the hell out of me though.

2. Ocarina of Time
Honestly I don’t have much to say about Ocarina of Time either because so much has already been said about it. OoT is the game that brought Zelda into 3D, provided a lengthy and engaging adventure… oh yeah it’s also considered one of the best games ever by a large amount of people. I’m assuming most people have already heard a ton about Ocarina of Time So I’ll just leave it at this… IT’S A LOT OF FUN.

1. A Link To The Past
This choice is based off of primarily nostalgia but then again about half of this list is based off of nostalgia. A Link to the past is without a doubt the defining game that got me into gaming. This game was simply amazing at the time and marked a major turning point in the Zelda franchise. A Link to the past not only expanded on everything the original Zelda did but this was also the first game where the story was told with more depth. This was the first game to introduce the Master Sword and it also feature a “Dark World”… which wouldn’t exactly be considered unique now but at the time it was groovy. It also had an amazing open world that featured towns, settlements, forests, dungeons, mountains and all kinds of stuff and overall the world was much more engaging then the first two Zelda games. I know some people might not think this game is the best of the franchise but A link to the past is without a doubt my favorite Zelda game.

Honorable Mention- Twilight Princess
Twilight Princess is a great game but it just didn’t blow my mind like the other games in the series. I’ll say it again this list is primarily based off of nostalgia but Twilight Princess is probably a better game then Ocarina of Time just as a game. For it’s time though I think that Ocarina of Time is much better then Twilight Princess. Twilight Princess just doesn’t do anything new to make it as mind blowing as say something like Alttp or OoT. Still an amazing game just not very different from the other Zelda games that already set the standard.

Klonoa Review

This review is going to be a little different then others because I’ve never played the original Klonoa on PlayStation 1 so I have no nostalgia for this game, Just getting that out of the way real quick. Klonoa takes place in the magical land of Phantomile in which you will play as a large eared… cat creature thing…. that’s a Pac-man enthusiast named Klonoa. One day Klonoa wanders into some random forest and finds a magical ring that contains a magical fairy (or floating blue blob whatever it’s all the same) named Hewpoe. Then a mysteriously magical ship crashes into the side of a mountain so Klonoa and Hewpoe go check it out and find two evil people looking for a magical pendent… AND THE ADVENTURE BEGINS. So as you can tell the story is nothing mind blowing but it’s light-hearted (or mostly) and it never drags on because most of the cut scenes are relatively short. They also decided to add English voice acting for the remake but I prefer the gibberish speak option because as Animal Crossing has taught us- all strange looking animals should only speak gibberish.

So Klonoa is a 2.5D sidescroller/platformer, Klonoa’s primary platforming mechanic is that he can grab enemies (using his ring’s very short range “wind bullet” power) and then use them to jump off of to get some extra height and it also kills the enemy you were holding. Klonoa can’t kill enemies by just jumping on them though (That nonsense is for plumbers only) so you’ll only be able to kill enemies by grabbing enemies and then throwing them or bouncing off of them. Grabbing enemies plays a major role in the game and you’ll be using it to do almost everything such as opening objects, hitting specific switches, attacking a boss’s weak point and all kinds of other malarkey. All of the levels consist of running through and killing bad guys so the game is very linear not that there’s anything wrong with that but if you’re interested in this game just know it’s strictly an old school platformer.

This game isn’t exactly the most difficult out there but I’d say there’s definitely easier platformers (Kirby would be a good example) but Klonoa does have some moments in which there may be a little challenge. The boss fights in particular are very easy and for some reason they usually tell you where the weak point is before the battle even starts so you’ll know right off the bat to start grabbing the lesser enemies and chucking them at a specific point on the boss. It’s already pretty simple to find the boss’s weak point without the game’s help so I don’t know why they felt the need to do that.Even though the boss fights are very easy they do a nice job at mixing the game up to prevent things from getting too tedious. There’s a ton of different control styles to use so you can pick whatever you prefer whether it be classic controller, nunchuck, Gamecube controller or whatever. The controls are also pretty simplistic so you can jump into the game very easily as it’s primarily just move, grab and jump but still very enjoyable.

Klonoa is a fairly short game but there’s some collectibles that add replay value for those that are interested and you also have to remember that this is only a $30 game. I think $20-$25 might of been a little bit more appropriate given how short the game is but $30 isn’t bad considering the game is currently selling for $40 and up from most sellers. Klonoa shows off it’s 2.5D graphic style at various points in the game as you’ll be weaving around trails on different layers or going around mountains but the game is still 2D (but with an extra .5). You can also throw objects into the background or in front of you to open objects or hit switches. I’m not saying this is ground breaking stuff but I’m just pointing out that it all looks very nice and works fine. The graphic style is kind of like a mix between Kirby and Billy Hatcher and is very cutesy. As for sound there’s Klonoa shouting “WAHOO” and enemies popping when killed… not much else to say. Speaking of Wahoo the game also comes with a coupon for a free taco from Wahoo’s… which might be reason enough to buy the game.

Like I’ve said before Klonoa is strictly an old school platformer and I’m sure if you’ve played this game before and enjoyed it then this game will provide a nice dose of nostalgia for you. I still enjoyed this game even though I never played the original because I went in expecting an old school platformer… which is what I got. Some people may say this game has aged since it’s release but really I don’t think that’s the case. 2D platformers haven’t changed enough over the years to consider Klonoa unplayable. Klonoa is a lot of fun and I would recommend it to any fan of platformers as a rent or buy but don’t forget…. you won’t get the free taco coupon if you rent the game.

I Still haven’t finished Henry Hatsworth yet but I’ve played a decent amount of it and I can give some impressions. So Henry Hatsworth is a puzzle game and a platformer *gasp* for the DS. The bottom screen is a puzzle game similar to something like Bejewled, blocks rise from the bottom of the screen and you can shift them right or left. On the top screen is the where Mr.Hatsworth does the platforming and fighting stuff. The top and bottom screen affect each other depending on what you do for example killing enemies on the top screen will help fill up your time meter for the puzzle screen. When playing on the puzzle screen the top screen will freeze but the puzzle screen is always slowly moving up. When the blocks reach the top of the screen you’ll get attacked by them but it’s pretty easy to stop the blocks from getting too high. Lining up blocks on the puzzle screen will also do things like restore your health or attack all the enemies on screen. Best of all there’s a super meter that fills up from matching multiple blocks and when you fill it up completely you can activate…. TEA TIME!11!!!1!!!

Tea time allows Henry Hatsworth to get into a giant robot suit, shoot lasers, punch stuff and be invincible for a short amount of time. Sometimes you won’t be able to move on with the suit if there’s something like a small gap or platforms near the ceiling which means you’ve got to be careful when activating Tea time or it could end up being a waste. The most surprising thing for me about this game though was how difficult it can be at times. The game starts out really easy and I was showering in extra lives because they were so easy to get. I noticed it was slowly starting to get harder in world 2 and by the end of world 3 I was ripping my hair out. It’s something I really didn’t expect from this game, going into it I though it would be just a simple platformer but the charm of it would be that it was mixed with a puzzle game. Like many people have said because of the difficulty it plays almost like an old school game. Most of the bosses require you to remember patterns and they can take a lot of hits and when you finally kill them it’s a very rewarding feeling. The puzzle part of the game seems to be very easy throughout the entire game(or at least of what I’ve played).

Henry Hatworth is different from other games out there but if you’re curious about it just be aware of the difficulty. There’s nothing wrong with a game that’s difficult but it just might be best to be prepared for a challenge. If you’re interested in this game I wouldn’t recommend renting it because the game may take awhile to finish if you can’t handle the difficulty (Like me). I would suggest buying this or waiting for the price to drop but it’s definitely a game worth trying out and it’s very unique.

That’s enough about Henry Hatsworth I’m just going to share a little story about my first time using GameStop online to order a few games. Mmmmmk…. So I was looking around at a few games shops for Persona 4 but I couldn’t find it any where. I decided to order it off of GameStop’s website since I could get a few discounts on it for buying it used and I also decided to order Advance Wars: Days of ruin (used) for the DS. About a week later I finally get it and Persona 4 is in pretty good condition with the manual and everything. (Although it took me like 15 minutes to scrap off the thousands of stickers covered all over the box) After that I pull out Advance wars and noticed it didn’t have the box art or the Manual but whatever I knew there was a chance of this happening. The game cartridge though looked like someone took a pen and jabbed it straight through half of the cartridge. When I’m buying used games, DS games are usually the last thing I worry about because it’s way more likely that I’ll get a disc with some scratches on it rather then a DS cartridge with a hole in it… I guess that wasn’t the case this time.

After further examining the cartridge for a little while it was pretty obvious that a dog was chewing on it and it’s tooth went half way through the cartridge… seriously what the hell GameStop? I’ve never had any problems with buying used games from GameStop until this. The game didn’t work at all so I had to find a Gamestop that had Advance Wars in stock and went and got a working copy. So all is well now… but damn what were they thinking trying to sell a game that looks like this. Upon first glance it’s obvious that the game is completely busted… really wish I took some pictures of it before I returned it but I guess it’s to late now.

That’s enough ranting for today :p
I should be posting a review for Klonoa next week if all goes well.

Burn Zombie Burn

Burn Zombie Burn is a PSN download game priced at $10 it's a top down shooter in which you kill and burn zombies *gasp*. You control a character named Bruce but that really doesn't matter because there's no story it's just kill endless waves of zombies until you die. The controls are fairly simple and instead of being a dual stick shooter a lock on button is used to kill zombies and it makes avoiding zombies a bit more easy which is good because there are A LOT of zombies. There's a nice amount of weapons to kill zombies with that make killing zombies much more enjoyable. Shotguns, Machine guns, baseball bats, chainsaws and lawnmowers are just a few of them and there's of course fire. Kind of as a secondary weapon you'll always have a torch used for burning zombies by pressing R2. When zombies catch on fire they will also catch any near by zombies on fire which helps the fire spread faster.Burning zombies doesn't hurt them at all on the contrary it actually makes them faster but burning zombies is necessary for getting a good score since they give more points. This is without a doubt one of the game's key features and makes you think about racking up points quickly or instead trying to conserve some health so you can last longer.

Burning zombies will also drop upgrades for dynamite you collect from killing normal zombies. Dynamite can be dropped by pressing triangle and kicked by pressing square. Kicking is used for getting dynamite into crowds of zombies but it's kind of dodgy at times. There's a handful of different zombie types that attack a little differently from each other but you'll mow most of them down pretty quickly. One zombie type called the exploder (Which may be related to the Boomer) explodes upon being hit. Exploders will force you to be careful if you're using close combat weapons.

There's a handful stages that you can unlock in Burn Zombie Burn but there's nothing really that changes things up it's just kill a bunch of zombies. There's a few different modes like one that requires you to defend something and a time attack mode that are a little different. Medals can be earned from getting high scores on the various modes and the gold medals can be very difficult. So there's stuff to do and if you're a fan of top down shooters you'll probably enjoy this. There's also a cooperative mode that uses split-screen but for some reason doesn't have online. I've only play coop a little but from what I've played it's plays just like single player and is just as chaotic.

That's all I've got to say about Burn Zombie Burn I'm keeping it kind of short because I don't really play a lot of top down shooters but I still enjoyed this. Maybe it's not really the best deal for $10 compared to other things you can get but if you're interested don't be afraid to go buy it it's pretty good overall.

Resident Evil 5

If you want to get the best experience possible from Resident Evil 5 then this is a game that must be played cooperatively. There's still some fun to be had in single player but really if you're planning on only playing this game alone you're better off just playing RE4 again because RE5 is built around coop and just isn't as enjoyable with an AI partner. While the AI partner isn't horrible it can still get annoying sometimes. Sometimes in narrow spaces while getting attacked by enemies I often found my partner standing right in my face and firing/reloading and leaving me half blind. Even when I'd turn around and run back a little she would just follow me and stop right in front of me again when I turned around. It's a small complaint but damn I wish she would just learn to run past me in narrow spaces. Don't plan on saving any herbs either if you give them to your partner she'll use them as soon as possible. This means you might have to cram your inventory full of green herbs so your partner doesn't use them before you get a red herb. One little thing I'd like to mention is when I gave my partner the "Gatling Gun" that when behind ducking cover half the time when he starting attacking he would just starting pumping bullets into the cover in front of him rather then the enemy. This gun does have infinite ammo and seems to be placed a little lower but it's just aggravating to look over and see my partner doing nothing but making noise. That's enough about the partner AI... it's good I suppose but again you're better off playing with a real person.

Righto, so the story is um... decent I suppose, I never felt attached to any of the characters and the plot in general didn't interest me very much but on the good side I never felt the desire to skip any of the cutscenes and the action cinematics are pretty snazzy looking too. Keep in mind this is coming from a chump that's only played RE4 (Don't hate on me classic RE fanboys) so yeah...what I think about the story might be completely different from what anyone following the series thinks. Anyways I'll just summarize how the story for RE5 starts out for those that don't know. There's this guy named Chris and he's fighting against Biological terrorist and he gets this partner named Sheva and there's zombies.... and it's in Africa. That's all you need to know.

If you've played RE4 then you should know what to expect with RE5 there's not too many major changes besides coop obviously. Another slightly significant change is the inventory system which takes place in real time now. You can only have 9 items now and have 4 of them as shortcuts on the D-pad. I didn't have any problems with the inventory system but like many people have said before I would of liked being able to combine herbs in Chris's inventory with herbs in Sheva's inventory. Real time inventory management can definitely make some situations a lot more tense then in RE4 since the suitcase inventory completely paused the action. Although having tons of zombies clawing at you can be "tense" it's not very scary... RE4 may not be "scary" according to some people but some moments *cough*Regenators*cough* give much more of creepy atmosphere then anything in RE5. The boss battles are still just as crazy as in RE4 with giant funky looking monsters that will make your jaw drop and utter "Woah mama...". After you beat the game there's a ton of stuff to do that adds plenty of replay value like in RE4. There's stuff like Mercenaries mode, alternate costumes, special weapons, infinite ammo, collectibles and all that junk. So yep... if you have a buddy to play with and some cash go buy Resident Evil 5 because I said so.... or don't... see if I care.

LittleBigPlanet... it's a Bucket load of fun (PS3)
LittleBigPlanet is without a doubt one of the most mind-blowing games of 2008. LittleBigPlanet is a 2D platformer (2.5D if you want to be accurate I suppose) made by Media Molecule exclusive to the PS3. One of the game’s most important features is of course player created custom levels. The ...
