The best games I played in 2010

I don't have a lot of time to play games anymore (well, comparatively), and I don't own every platform.  Also, I don't have a lot of money so I mostly stick with PSN releases and older games.  Therefore, I don't feel right submitting a list for game of the year considerations.  Instead, here's a list of the games I've played this year, in order of enjoyment.

List items

  • First game that I beat this year, and still the best.

  • As of this writing, I have died 9500 times in this game. I keep coming back for more. Almost done with The Cotton Alley... almost. And holy shit, that soundtrack.

  • Oh god. This game hooked me good. Last I checked, I was ranked 200th or so on PSN. Can't wait to get back home to my PS3 so I can play some Pac Man. If you told me last year that I'd be saying that, I'd have told you that you're crazy.

  • Last year, Burnout: Paradise was high on this list. Criterion managed to hook me again with this one. The only thing that got me to stop playing this one was... Pac Man.

  • The scene where you cut off your finger still makes me shudder. I never actually finished this one, though. I got to the night club, but then I had to travel for over a week. When I got back, I was never motivated to finish the story, and the thread has faded since then. I still really want to go in and finish this one off, though.

  • Fighting on the back of Gaia is probably my favorite gaming moment of this year. This game lacks some of the "holy shit" moments that God of War II had, and I miss some of the puzzles, but I still enjoyed this nonetheless.

  • Dude. You can walk through buildings while piloting a giant robot. That alone makes the lackluster story missions totally forgivable.

  • I'm listening to the soundtrack of this game while I'm writing this list. A short, but sweet experience.

  • This game hooked me. The simplicity and the exploration are excellent.

  • Yeah, I love Halloween.

  • I made it to the fire temple, and stopped playing. Having a Zelda game to go to for awhile was great, but I lost interest after a bit. May go back and finish this one later.

  • I had this on last year's list, too, but it got me good this year. About 80 hours played this year alone. This is probably the most I played of any game other than minesweeper. I love the simplicity of all of it. I eventually drifted away from it, since I find the lasting community to be way to uptight. Still, this lasted way longer than it probably should have.

  • I really enjoyed this one, but the fun wore out on the harder challenges near the end. Probably won't finish this one.

  • Fun, but nothing very memorable after the fact.

  • I enjoyed the art style and the overall whimsy, and the GOTY levels were decent, but I never finished the story and haven't really gone back to it.

  • Uh, yeah. I played this a lot this year. I have no idea where to put this, either. But, I remain in the top 100 of the world, so that's something.

  • I played about 3 hours, but I don't think I'll play it any more. Too tedious.

  • Never really clicked.
