@loungemonkey: maybe so but when everything descends into an argument or in neogafs case an echo chamber then the thread becomes null and void. People don't talk about games anymore. If the thread was "let's discuss wolfensteins agenda" I can avoid that thread and talk about the game in its own OT. I am not going to debate that politics is very important especially regarding racism and sexism in the industry. But damn, sometime I just want to get excited and converse about the game as it stands in a sea of other video games. I know I'm coming across a little naive, but everything is so darn serious and people's backs are constantly up. :(
@loungemonkey: the politics crept into gaming strong this last year. the wolfenstein thread was a prime example of that. Every gaming thread spun into a political debate by about 4-5 pages in.
@conantheking: what if she does though? should he not defend himself from these severe accusations. I'm not saying they are true but come on, imagine the shoe was on the other foot here. What if someone with a mental disorder took things out on you as revenge? Would you not want your voice heard?
The problem I had with gaf was the bullshit moderation, but also the importance of off topic and politics. I go there for games, to discuss a fun hobby. That became the sidecar to all the other heated discussions taking place. I want to see it come back but to be focused on video games only. I don't go to giant bomb to find out the crews opinions on left wing right wing nonsense.
@pcorb: no offence taken. I have no actual reason to move. I have my own space in a three bedroom house. I work days and my mum works evenings. Most times she will stay at my sisters to spend time with her grandson. I have more money in this scenario than I would if I moved into a place of my own. I'm happy where I am and see no reason to put myself in a tougher financial position. If I was to find someone to move out with and have a dual income no kids lifestyle, things may change.
I may have worded my blog a little poorly. The flaws I mention are flaws that a person who just met me would most likely judge me for. Someone from the outside looking in. They are typical 'basement dweller' traits.
I was showing my lifestyle downfalls in the eyes of most other people. Then go on to talk about something I do have that they have left behind in their childhood in their eagerness to conform to what they consider normal.
I'm extremely content with my life, I have a circle of amazing friends, I body build, I'm in great shape, I enjoy my nights out, I have a nice car, I make a very nice wage, I voluenteer for mental health support, I'm attractive, I'm quite picky and don't settle for less than what I want. These are all things that factor into my rounded life. But I wanted to contrast the downfalls with one part of my life that I thought was relevant on a gaming website. Something I still love to this day and never lost interest.
This has devistated me, I live in Ireland and have never met Ryan in person, but to me he was one of my best friends. he has been in my life on a daily basis, through the bombcast, the quick looks or twitter.
