@lively: Well put - you convinced me to put my money where my mouth is and cancel my sub. I’ve been a subscriber since Day 1 - the day after Dave Snyder explained how subs were going to work on one of the live shows back in ‘08. Have subbed annually every year for 13 years. Like you said, maybe after the pandemic is truly over and the studio makes a comeback I may return. But until then peace out everybody. I’m heading over to Nextlander and riding off into the sunset.

@falloutraven: yeah that’s a big part of it. Although I’m still surprised that either the big retailer haven’t set up their own backorder system or Sony/MS just says “fuck it” and set up their own system at the expense of retailers. Are they really that scared of physical retailers given a long enough timeline?

@yapapanda: I've stayed with Giant Bomb as pretty much my only source for video game coverage for the past 13 years primarily because it was singularly focused on games. As Polygon, IGN, even GameSpot added more non-game coverage such as comics, "what's coming to Netflix this month", etc. GB stayed true to the original vision of the site. I totally understand that the crew has other interests outside games but adding a bunch on non-game-related shows seemingly randomly just makes it the same as pretty much any other modern game enthusiast site. It loses its originality and frankly its authenticity.

@nickm: I think people just see "Nancy" and thinks it's sexist. It's actually a variation on "Nervous Nellie," which refers to a worn-down horse. So I guess it's horse-ist?

@whitegreyblack: We just saw an example of this during the podcast this week - Jean-Luc had to fill in for Jan again because Jan had to duck out and finish editing the Power Rangers show. I'm sure there's going to be more situations in the future where games coverage is going to be compromised because the staff will be too busy producing all of this other stuff.

@whitegreyblack: Here's the problem with that - GB only has so many employees and there are only so many hours in the day. Even if they are going to hire a few more people I don't see how making time for all of these non-game related shows won't eat into the time and resources traditionally reserved for Quick Looks, live shows, and all the other established game-related content they have created thus far.

@fugoy: I think we’re all just venting our frustration with the direction of the site. Everyone’s always saying “vote with your wallet” when it comes to enacting change, so that’s what we’re doing and we’re letting our intentions be known.

@vectortheangel: 100% agree - the one of the main reasons I've been a GB subscriber since day 1 is because (aside from the occasional wrestling and anime one-offs) they've focused entirely on games. If I want music news and criticism, I'll go to a site devoted to music. If I want games coverage, I'll find a games site where I enjoy the viewpoints of the people at that site. That used to be GB but now I think that time has passed.

This is what I was afraid of... GB is going to be stuffed with a bunch on "content" that the marketing department at RV sees being aligned to their demographic data and "metrics." I'm seriously considering cancelling and giving my sub money to Nextlander.
