@nutter: I agree with you, it was worth the second play through, and having done most of it before gave me more space to get into the details of the story. It's one hell of a time commitment, but was worth it just to get to the dlc stories alone. Definite contender for game of the generation to my mind.

@sessh: Thanks! Noted about the breakup, of the content - it is a bit of a long block!

I've made a start on FFXV, and after that am planning on redoing VLR with the intention of jumping straight into Zero Time Dilemma. I'm really looking forward to experiencing it. Will check out Vesperia at some point if I can - I have no experience in that series, but I've seen it about and does look up my alley.

@charaznablecustom: Sorry, I haven't read that site, I was talking about on here directly, which is my only experience.

I probably should clarify that I'm not intending to say that there is no over reaction, just that on here, my feeling is that the bulk of the negativity or complaints have been focused on the issue (which seems fair) and less random emotional flailing than I think is being suggested by some.

Also: Just a quick edit to make it clear that I don't think anyone should be committing suicide in any style or flavour over this.

@doctorfaust: That statement is such a ill-proposed rendering of the actual issue involved that I'm beginning to question whether you're even a real doctor at all. I guess I can't complain too much though, since I have Fun in my name.

Generally, excepting the odd person here or there, the negative comments here haven't seemed that bad. Very few people are actually directly attacking the site itself, and that's good - Giant Bomb is a great site. But in this particular case, they did make a mistake, which people are pointing out. For the most part, I think that's as far is it goes, and probably as far as I'd expect it to go.

I personally found it troubling for a number of reasons, but I'm not angry about it. I do think it's sad that we now live in a world where people seem to jump to conclusions about pretty much everything, and, from actually reading the comments from the start, I get the impression that the reactionary 'pitchforks, rage and mob' accusations only became something when people starting saying that's what was happening - a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts. Which I find kind of ironic because all of this stemmed from some people on a video misreading something and deciding something else was happening.

The issue, as I see it anyway, is not that they've confused one particular type of in-game prejudice for another, but that Ben and Jan misread and then interpreted the game itself as being racist (or, to be fair to their words 'skeezy' is I think the term they used.)

It's an honest error, but one that is a bit surprising when they both state they've played the first game, and also not helped by misreading the words on the screen, or making even a cursory effort to evaluate that judgement beyond the initial reaction. The reason I think it's worth flagging up this specificity is that throwing such claims around without thinking can cause undeserved damage. There may well be people who have no knowledge of the game that were interested in it, or who had heard of the original, which has a fairly positive reputation. It could turn them off playing, or sour their opinion on the game creators, which isn't right.

I'm not sure how they managed to both play through the first game in the series without knowing about Darcsens, considering it's a fairly significant part of the plot and character development during that game.

Though I guess maybe they skipped over all the story sections in that one too?
