What's frustrating to me is there is still so much on this site that's great. The discussion they had about peoples concerns regarding the whole games journalism thing was brilliant and insightful. To be honest a lot of what is best about this site seems to go into the bombcast.
In other ways it feels like they're treading water, rather than going backwards. I'll echo what a lot of other people have said about the quality of Quick Looks. There's still plenty of funny and informative ones getting made, but I'm sick of watching them crawl through 30 minutes or more of a game they clearly don't want to play (obviously I should just stop watching them). The Guild Wars 2 one is a prime example. If none of them have the slightest bit of interest in a game then just don't do a Quick Look of it, because the alternative is a half-arsed, misinformed mess that is both unfunny and of no use to anyone in deciding what the game is like.
I guess what it comes down to is the frustration of hearing Jeff talking passionately about the site (the recent design talk with Dave and Alexis) and then coming on here and finding yet another shaky cam I Love Mondays that takes 10 minutes to tell me anything. It's not end of the world stuff, but the whole "making it up as we go along" shtick is starting to wear thin. The move to CBS was supposed to get them more resources, but honestly the stuff they did at Whiskey Media looked more professional. Perhaps it's just a side-effect of everyone waiting for the new site to launch, I don't know.
It doesn't feel nice to be complaining, because it's clear they still work their butts off, but those people saying we should just go to another site don't seem to get it. I don't want to, I like the site. They've put a lot of effort into fostering a community here and it's worked! That's why we give a shit in the first place.
Also, people need to cut the shit with Patrick. He can be opinionated and sometimes verbose, but this place needs more intelligent, articulate people. I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched a Quick Look where he's known more about the game than the person supposed to be doing the demo. He's not infallible, but then neither is anyone else on the site. Seems a bit false to pin that all on Patrick.
Last thing. For the love of God employ Rorie. He's a good writer, knows the site and the community, is clearly comfortable on camera and would fill the Dave shaped hole in PC coverage. It's never going to happen, I know, but let me dream.
