What?? No The Four Horsemen? No Ride The Lightning? NO CALL OF KTULU? I am outraged. If they are going to bother doing a band specific Guitar Hero they should do EVERY song that band has.

I'll still buy it but I'll be outraged playing it...

At least there is "Fade To Black" and "One", even if GHIII had it.  That is actually a solid set list, and I already have the Metallica pack for Rock Band, so I am covered for "Ride The Lightning", "...And Justice For All" and "Blackened".  Maybe I should just buy the Death Magnetic album also, right? At the very least, solid list.

WOW!  Commenting separately on the Metallica and the "bonus" sides:

Metallica
  • "Dyer's Eve" makes this auto-win.
  • "Orion" makes me giddy inside.
  • The lack of love for Load, like "The House That Jack Built", "Bleeding Me", or "The Thorn Within" kind of pisses me off.  Those three songs would've been EXCELLENT from an all-band perspective.  I would been happy with losing some of the *black album* shit to get those songs (glares at "Nothing Else Matters").
  • "Disposable Heroes" reaffirms my belief in this game having some auto-win.
  • *EDIT*  Another thing:  for some unexplainable reason, I keep wishing they had "Bad Seed" on here.  Why, God, why?  I didn't even like Reload that much.  I don't know.  Would've been cooler than "The Memory Remains".

As for the "bonus" stuff:

I think the Machine Head song is a very interesting choice. (surprise surprise that Machine Head is the first thing I would notice, eh)

I personally would've gone with something like "None But My Own", "Now I Lay Thee Down", or "Descend The Shades of Night".  However, I guess they don't want Machine Head showing Metallica up.

Super psyched about having CoC on a GH game finally!!!

"Blood and Thunder" is going to be SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUCKING FUN!!!  I'm dying to play that shit!!!

One thing that overall disappoints me:  I would've thought that Metallica would damn near demand that a Pantera song be put into the game, but I guess not.

I like that they have "Mommy's Little Monster" and "Mother of Mercy" on there, since Metallica was as inspired by punk and deathrock as much as they were British metal. Can't wait to attempt to sing the Mercyful Fate song, that'll be great for parties, and I'm disappointed in the lack of Black Flag (pre-My War era BF was a huge influence on Metallica, there are lots of accounts of the Metallica guys going to later Black Flag shows and pleading for them to play their early material, much to the dismay of BF) but I'm not surprised that they're not on there. I still hold out hope that, one day, we'll be able to play "Six Pack" and/or "TV Party" on a music game, I don't care which one.

I dunno, honestly, I think Metallica's a bit overrated (I can think of a lot of popular bands that rock harder and with more sincerity), but it's cool that they're getting their own Guitar Hero game. It'll sell like hotcakes and Master of Puppets will be fun as hell to play.

I want Guitar Hero: Motley Crue. Really bad.

I don't get it, Metallica is the most formulaic band around, how are they a good game to make a whole game about?

I'm not really happy with The Sword's song on there.  It's okay, but they've got WAY better choices.

Actually, I'm going to agree, and I am both an adult and a music junkie.

In all honesty, I've always just seen Metallica as a gateway band to bands such as The Misfits, Black Flag, Mercyful Fate, Diamond Head, and most of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal Bands from the late 70s, if not metal and hardcore punk in general. Yes they are popular, yes, this game's going to sell like hotcakes, yes, I'm probably going to buy it because there are a lot of songs on here I'd like to play (few of them are Metallica songs), but, really, Metallica is one of the most hit-or-miss bands out there.

That being said, there is potential in band-themed music games to actually explore the story behind the band the game is themed around in a meaningful way besides behind the scenes footage. I'm hoping Harmonix's Beatles game lives up to the ridiculous ideas I have in my head as to how a game like this would be played (I actually created a design document for a game based around The Replacements the other day out of boredom, basically it'd start with their early career, you'd have to play tons of live shows, manage the band's drug usage, butcher the hell out of cover songs, eventually get your shit together and sober up and tour with Tom Petty and what-have-you, and there'd be a huge emphasis on recording in the story mode, with each song having several different playable versions based on various live and demo bootlegs as well as the album versions of the songs, the game would basically not only capture the feel of playing in a live band like so many other music games do but also have the player playing through and learning about the album recording process) because they could potentially revolutionize music games in a huge way if the game is done right, and the biggest part of making sure the game is done right is by basing it around a band that's actually got a compelling story behind it.

The most compelling thing that happened to Metallica was when Dave Mustaine from Megadeth injected heroin into James Hetfield's ass. Also, that whole Napster thing, which will probably be glossed over if they even mention it at all, and the Some Kind of Monster stuff, which wasn't interesting, it was just pathetic.

Kyuss is the highlight for me as well.

I would call Metallica alot of things, but formulaic is not one of them. Especially pre-Black album Metallica.
It's a good list, but I still feel like it needs more. Ride The Lightning, Motorbreath, Until It Sleeps, like what the fuck?
If you have the license, USE IT! Though we all know they'll nickel and dime us for the rest on DLC.

Hell yeah, I gotta get my buddy to buy Dr. Feelgood for Rock Band. Kickstart My Heart is my favorite song ever.
It pisses me off that I can't get that game yet since I'm holding out for the RB2 instruments here in Norway. I hate the RB1 guitar (the strum is way too squishy), so I still use my GH3 Les Paul.

Oh yeah, as for the lack of Pantera, I'd imagine it's cause Phil and Vinnie Paul still aren't the best of friends and would probably bitch at eachother about royalties or billing or some petty bullshit. Can't they just meet over a Blacktoothed Grin and make amends in the memory of Dimebag?

They're pretty formulaic. Early Metallica, like early Megadeth, sounds like Black Flag after the My War album (lots of insane guitar heroics and basslines to match) but played at faster speeds and with heavier riffage as opposed to Black Flag's overuse of avant-garde, sometimes even just-barely-out-of-key leads.

Well, I'll concede my ignorance when it comes to Black Flag, cause I've only skimmed over some of the stuff from the Henry Rollins era which I'm told were the "bad" years. I'm not saying that early Metallica was avante garde prog, but by formulaic I imagine he meant simple verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, chorus metal/rock. They never had tricky time signatures and Kirk's always relied on his pedal, but maybe it's cause it's the first "real" music I listened to as a kid back on cassettes, early Metallica was kind of unique. Especially if you look at the musical landscape of the time.
Especially since the guy who said it is a simpleton. Your definition of formulaic is a bit more fitting, though I must personally disagree to some extent.

I wouldn't say the Rollins era was bad per say, but it wasn't nearly as good as the early stuff. A good starter album for the Black Flag initiate is The First Four Years, it collects all the singles they released before Rollins. I do have to warn you though, as much of a sacred cow Black Flag is not only to punk but thrash and rock music in general, the lyrics get really bad at times. Like adolescent poetry bad.

Anyway, around the time they released the album "My War" (which I keep referring to in this thread and I'm sure there are many people reading this thread and wondering what the hell I'm referring to) the band slowed down their approach and began playing really riff-heavy sludge rock. Later Black Flag, aka the post-My War era, would serve as a huge influence on a young Kurt Cobain, among others. They were also an influence on many of the thrash metal bands at the time (including Metallica), but, as many people hated how slow the newer Black Flag material was, they took a similar riff-heavy approach and just cranked the speed up.

One of Henry Rollins's books describes an encounter with a pre-Ride the Lightning Metallica. He talks them up as douche-y kids screaming for Black Flag to play the older material and to play the newer songs faster, and, as by this point Black Flag was taking themselves far too seriously, they were annoyed and offended by this. I forgot what Rollins does, he probably tried to rip out Lars Ulrich's jugular or something equally badass.

I wonder if they will sue someone.

Metallica is predictable, but not as predictable as AC/DC. But I still like to listen to the music. There is just something about James Hetfield I like.

I know. I mean, everyone should listen to faggots who dress like women and talk openly about masturbation and zombies to their crowds. It's really shocking that no one has heard of those bands, because you really seem to have a boner over them. Nobody likes a music snob. If you don't like Metallica then that's your thing, but don't come around on threads tossing around bands nobody gives a fuck about, because you just come off like a tool. I hate Led Zeppelin, but if they ever got a music game I wouldn't troll their page about it.
