Top 35 Games of 2010 (not finished)

This year in games was a river that ran shallow, but wide.  There wasn't one game that grabbed me by the balls, but there was a ton of very good games.  Hence, my top 35 list.

List items

  • Whenever I played Limbo it had my complete attention. For some reason I could only play a little bit at a time. Also, the "Lord of the Flies" part really creeped me out.

  • This dinky little game has probably sucked away more of my productivity than any 50 hour RPG I've ever played. I know it was out on iPhone earlier, but it wasn't released on Android until '10.

  • Aside from the lack of a kick ass vehicle sequence at the end, this is the best Halo game (single & multi player) ever.

  • At last count I died over 1,600 times. I truly feel this exercise has made me better at video games.

  • I know the story was flat, but I really think this is the direction video games need to go. Not the quick time events, but the way it treated the player as an adult.

  • It was even more distilled than the first game. The levels were short, difficult and awesome.

  • I'm coming around to the notion that this doesn't play as well as '10, but it's still the go to game after a few beverages.

  • Either I'm getting smarter or the puzzles are getting easier (probably the latter). I had to go online to find answers to a lot less puzzles than last year's edition. This series makes me want to play adventure games, but when I play actually play adventure games I realize that I hate them.

  • I almost quit playing after the first memory sequence (the banter was that bad), though once I got to Italy for reals I was totally hooked.

  • If it wasn't for the drastically steep difficulty level towards the end, this could have been game of the year.

  • The multiplayer is fun, though I suck at it. The single player was cheesy in all the right ways.

  • You wear your hair, which is also a weapon and you wear fucking stiletto heals with guns in them. The music was incredible, too.

  • Any game that I spend more than 40 hours playing deserves to make my top 15. I loved the battle system and I'm totally ashamed for not spending the two hours it'd take to finish this game.

  • 100% better than Pac-Man CE, which set a high bar. It's one of those games where I get in a zone and for a split second, I'm completely engaged in the game and the world could end and I wouldn't notice (re: geometry wars, REZ). It's also a game that I might actually get all of the cheevos for.

  • This was a very fun game, despite a few hiccups and very basic combat.

  • An excellent pallet cleanser for the next GTA.

  • This game is rated so high based more on my complete and total dominance over oprah, than the actual game itself. Though the game is pretty good too.

  • The way the chapters were presented was brilliant. I hope that Remedy doesn't make a sequel and makes a better game with a similar backdrop.

  • I've spent about 8 hours with the game and I haven't got to the titty scene. This is a fun ride, which is why I think I'll switch to 'easy' difficulty and plow through the rest of the game.

  • In the absence of a decent Tony Hawk game, this admirably fills the bill.

  • I constantly felt a little dirty for playing this for some reason (11 year olds in mini skirts), but it was a great game to listen to some music or a podcast while plowing through.

  • I've finished the first game and it's a more than decent 3-D platformer, which is surprising, considering the game is almost 10 years old. I'm looking forward to the next two games.

  • The single player was hella tight. The multi player was an abortion.

  • The last 3rd of the game was cool.

  • More of a rhythm game than a platformer. Difficult and super fun, but a glitch with a save kept me from getting to the second set of levels.

  • Not nearly as good ad New Super Mario Brothers, but a fun way to turn your brain off for a little while.

  • I'm well on my way to beating this (on easy mode).

  • Proof that nostalgia vs. reality delta was large with this one. Still fun none the less.

  • A pretty decent shooter that's on my list of games I need to finish.

  • Best bocce ball simulator out there.
