You won't be able to import anything from ME1 which is a major selling point for the series, so it's kinda gimped. If you already know the default story settings why bother?

I'd hit that... up. I don't care if I haven't played ME or know what it's about. But that's what the wiki page is for. I'll definitely be picking it up.

It's great news for PS3 fans regardless.  But I have to agree, one of the main reasons Mass Effect 2 felt so epic was because you were already so familiar with the characters and setting.  Seeing how everything had changed the years after the first game and all the improvements they made to the game was really astonishing.  I'd have to highlight the reveal of the Normandy SR-2, which was similar to seeing the starship Enterprise in the movie for the first time, it was a really amazing sequence that's just going to lose all impact for those jumping into the series.

Or to compare it to something more gamers may understand..  The first Assassins Creed was not a very good game, but had some very cool elements.  Playing it before the sequel made AC2 seem all the better.  Except in this case ME1 was actually a fantastic game and is vital to the continuing story of the second.

true but the new is still young. maybe they'll do something to mix it up. maybe you can pick them beforehand, maybe every time you start a new game the story is randomized. all i know, is the PC version was crippled. it crashed because it was too blue. TOO BLUE! and you got to look head man, ME3 won't be far.

I didn't played the first ME, but ME 2 is still my game of the year so far. Then again, the gameplay trumps the story of the game for me.

I'd buy it on the PC before I picked it up for the PS3 because being able to import my ME1 save was very important to me.  I did that on my 360 copy and it added a lot to my relationship with the Shepard character and the overall storyline.  If PS3 gets ME1 too, then I'll consider it.

The PC version was not crippled, it is the best version of the game. I don't know how you can say that it's crippled.

This is great news for PS3 fans! More Mass Effect love for everyone!
Although the fact that there's no original ME is kind of a bummer, because part of what made ME2 special for me was the fact that it felt personalized, and PS3 fand won't experience the awesomeness that is Wrex :(

For me, ME1 was better than ME2 because it was much more of an actual RPG and you could do such awesome things to your character. The shooting mechanics were fine and it was awesome to experiment with different classes and skills. Also, I liked how the story felt a lot more epic. But to each his own I guess.

it's crippled because it would crash because it was TOO BLUE! that's just bad game making there. also, if you have a single core computer like me, it couldn't even run cutscenes.

This is great news! I played and beat the first on my 360 before I sold it, and I was bummed that I couldn't play the sequel unless I had a decent gaming PC. But now I can play it on my PS3 and enjoy it! I can't wait!

not even that, the mass effect games have always been on PC as well. more like bioshock coming to PS3, no real effect. god i hope they don't have to patch the mass effect version like the bioshock one.

Since when do you have to play the game before a sequel to enjoy said game? I'm sure there were plenty of folks on the 360 who only played ME2 and had a great time regardless. That being said, I used to own a 360 and played through the first one so I'm looking forward to it, and I don't remember a god damn thing from that play through.

@Raven_Sword: What ps3 exclusives has gone to the xbox360? Also did you know that it's also a pc game? I always associated it as a microsoft exclusive.

For the thread, I realised microsoft bought the rights to the first game, not the second or third game, I guess I have to accept that.

PERHAPS : if Valve were make mass effect / mass effect 2 steam-cloud compatible then perhaps you could import your save to PS3
or more plausible but equally unlikely perhaps use import via a USB?
Most likely people who have Mass Effect 1 already have 2....
This game would be for people for either never played mass effect 2 or PS3 owners who don't have a good enough PC to run it on.

good news i guess. i don't think there is a point in buying a game for each platform. there is nothing different in it beside microsoft gets like a month of DLC before anybody (ps3, pc).

Your PC being unable to run the game is YOUR problem not the makers. That's why there is something called "Minimum  System Requirements". You should have checked that before blaming the game of being "crippled" for your lack of better hardware.

The only reason why it's retarded that EA only brings over ME2 and not ME1 for the PS3, is that it's direct sequel and many of the events in ME1 are important to the story. Nothing from the import saves make a big difference on the game. You get a bunch of space-emails, some past NPC that stand in a bar and that's pretty much it. I remember Bioware talking about this stuff as something that would actually have any impact on the game, but it doesn't. I actually played ME1 several times to get it exactly the way I thought was best for the rest of the series. Some people use the decision to save the council at the end as a big game-changer. But the council doesn't give a shit about you in ME2. I played my import save and a fresh new character in ME2 with different choices, and I didn't see one damn difference between the games. Bioware really dropped the ball.

I wonder if Bioware is going to incorporate something that lets you make all the decisions from quest and major plot points from the first ME on ME2 on the PS3. I can see them doing something like this just because they consider that a big part of ME2. I have no desire to go back to the first one anyway put if they were to do this I will most def pick this up for the PS3 even though I already own the xbox version.

@Bones8677: Yeah but those games are released at the same time. Mass effect 2 isn't, it's not like the ps3 could keep the exclusives anyways, considering they don't pay for exclusives anymore. I'm talking about something like mass effect 2 or uncharted 2 after it's released, then going on another console.

Why the hell would you object to more people having the game?  I just don't understand some of you people.

Now every next generation gamer can play this great game.  Every gamer should be happy.

Too bad people are too concerned about exclusives, resolutions, and petty forum wars to be happy for anyone else.

I feel like I've been overthinking this all day. I recently borrowed Mass Effect 2 for PC and, although at least playable on my computer unlike 1, it still felt like I could have better. Framerate dropped severely during fights, I had to turn all effects off, and I had no ME save.
As long as you wiki the fist game's story, you won't be confused. But, the carried over choices really added something to the game.
Bioware NEEDS to, but probably will not do any of the following:
1. Bundle the games on one disk (impossible due to legal obligations with MGS)
2. Do what the guys at Penny Arcade wanted and let you pick your major choices from the first game at the start instead of their messed up origin selection crap.
3. Recap the first game before you start 2
3. Charge less for it, include the DLC, and everybody will be happy.

Whenever someone trys to tout the 360s great librarey they used this game. Meaning, to them, it was implied as some kind of Console Exclusvie. Now that isnt the case anymore and the game cannot be used to tout 360 really anymore because its on PS3 now as well. Like wise, this game should not be used to tout PS3s librarey really.

This is a big thing for PS3 and maybe a not so great thing for 360 because it lost a game that was a selling point for the console over the PS3, because while it was also on PC, it was only on 360 as far as consoles go and it was maybe used as a bases to get a 360 over a PS3 if your looking at getting a console. I think anyone saying this isnt atleast a kinda big thing for PS3 is just damage controlling mostly.

(also, PS3 lost FF 13 as a Exclusive, DMC 4 as a exclusive, GTA 4 as a Exclusive and etc. While you can argue that last two where never really a confimed PS3 exclusive, they were assumed because the franchises are tied or mostly tied to the PS brand, so it was kinda assumed as a given. FF 13 was confirmed many times as a PS3 exclusive in its early days. If you didnt think GTA was a brand tied to the PS brand, your a fool)
