  • At the end of the day what really is amazing is not the fact that we got a good Sonic game. Neither that we got a true classic style Sonic game. What really has be at awe is the fact that this game managed to surpass the games it's clearly inspired by. That I think has rarely ever happened in all of gaming. Megaman 9 did not surpass its predecessors and Link Between Worlds did not surpass Link to the Past.

For some reason we just can't let go of the classics even when game developers clearly are aiming for that “classic” position. Sonic Mania has achieved the impossible and that is one hell of an accomplishment. Maybe it's time to let the fans take over and give them the freedom to revitalize other gaming franchises.

  • Now you might think I'm crazy but hear me out. Well ok it really all comes down to gaming preferences. 2D platformers are my favorite kinds of games so that gives this game a very huge advantage. Also this is a list of my favorite games of the year. Not at objective list of the games you should play.

Ok so giant disclaimer out of the way. Once again the people behind the likes of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac have brought a gross and exhilarating 2D platformer that knows exactly what you're going to do and exploits that in a very challenging but fair game. The game has tons of secrets and bonus levels to unlock and every time I do unlock something its always great to go and play those levels as well.

Also I don't know how the hell they do this but the game is simpler than Meat Boy since it doesn't have a wall jump but you hang on to ledges. The thing is that as the game goes on you feel like you are evolving and doing new things but you're not it's just excellent level design.

  • As I look back on this game I can safely say that this is indeed the best 3D Zelda game ever made. Honestly I'm not that surprised because they just keep getting better and better (Yes Skyward Sword was a step back but still the pattern was OoT < WW < TP up until that point).

It keeps all the best parts about Zelda games (Exploration, Story and Combat) and dumps all the useless crap that was holding back the series. It was like finding gold and then they refined it to the best quality that they could by getting rid of all the junk that didn't work like long ass tutorials that people clearly don't need.

I dont normally bring up reviews and such but just look how crazy everyone went over this game and still to this day.

  • I was very worried about this game. I thought it was gonna be all style and no substance. Man I have never been so happy that I was WRONG!

Cuphead may have a few mechanics that could use some fleshing out like the dash and parry, but it uses everything it has to deliver a truly brutal but rewarding experience unlike you have ever seen.

  • I thought I was done with open world games but then I got a PS4 that had this game bundled in along with Ratchet and The Last of Us Remastered. One day after beating Last of Us I decided to just try this game because I wasn't gonna finish it.

Dozens of hours later and after the credits roll I realized that this game was special. The combat is fun, hunting is fun, exploring is fun. It really pushes open games even further in ways that really we have never seen before. There is only one open world game this year that could top this. It was a close one and at some point I did want to like this game more than Zelda (oops spoiled the surprise but cmon you know its Zelda)

  • Its 3D Mario in the Mario 64 style refined like fine wine.

Two things I didn't like: Dificulty, too easy and I had some camara issues.

  • Frantic but the controls are TIGHT! The little game that could, Nex Machina shines past so many games this year even though its super short. After you beat the small Arcade mode you will wanna go back to unlock a bunch of stuff.

  • Despite the dificulty, this game just made me come back for more. The controls are tight and the style is just so damn cool.

  • Despite this game having one of the worse gaming sins in my opinion (where the fuck do I go sin), it still manages to be one of the best metroidvania style of games ever. The combat and art style alone carry this game. Its a hard game that at times wears its Dark Souls inspiration a little to upfront but like I said there is just so much good in this game that I think its worth it.

  • I'm a very casual Resident Evil fan. I finished 4 and 5 and have only slightly played all the older ones but left them because of frustration because of the combat and me always getting lost.

This game shares some of those frustrations but makes up for it in creepy atmosphere and a story that really keeps you going
