Lately I've been DOOMed.

Don't know what sparked it, but lately I've been playing a crap-heap of DOOM and DOOM 2 on the PC (the best versions by far)

That's a pretty sweet box right there, yo.
That's a pretty sweet box right there, yo.
I've never actually managed to beat either game until last night. I made it to the final showdown in DOOM 2 and won (with some help from my buddy John). I have to say, from all I've played of both original games, DOOM 2 is by far more crazy, more intense, and overall I'd say more fun. A game that can make a person 10-15 years later go OH SHIT due to the sheer amount of... well doom they place upon you is saying something. Bosses from the first game become basically regular enemies in the second game, if you want me to put it into perspective. Then imagine opening a door and seeing a room FULL of these. Yeah, pants soiled... but AWESOME.
The original is a classic, though.
The original is a classic, though.

The only thing I can say is that I could never play the series on a controller anymore. For the most part, the only reason I was able to get by was due to the fluidity of keyboard and mouse controls, being able to strafe around and aim like a champ. When I play on a controller, it just feels a bit too limiting for me, and I underperform. Oh well, it was meant to be played on a PC, so that makes sense.

So what am I going to do next? Well, maybe I should finally hunker down and finish off the original bad boy. We'll see.

You would be playing DOOM!

I still need to purchase it on XBLA. I'll get around to doing that one of these days.

A Jaguar Doom...? That would be interesting, since I am pretty sure,it was a good port. I played the PC version, and it was good. Not THAT good because I had already played a superior System Shock by that time.

DooM. Good times, now don't go playing DooM 3, because it GAR-BAGE compared to DooM, and DooM 2.

Here's hoping that iD don't screw up DooM 4.

Damn, you guys don't miss anything,  lol. No, I didn't play it on the Jaguar, but that's the only decent picture of the original box art on Giant Bomb that I could find that wasn't an obvious OMG ITS 32X type box art.

If you have beaten Doom2, the original will be a cake walk.

I actually like playing Doom with a controller. Since you are not able to really aim the gun anywhere, I don't see the point of using a mouse.

Only version of Doom I have is of course the XBLA version.  I like it anyway but I assume the PC versions are the superior ones since it was on it first.  I would rather have the controller anyday since I grew up playing controllers more than keyboard and mouse hence why I prefer playing FPS on console rather than PC.

Some would say you are now "Doomed" to playing this game... hahaha... errr... yeah.

Doom is great.  Played the first game until my eyes fell out.. and then I played it again.

if i remember correctly, DOOM was one (if not the first) video game I played. I loved that game...too bad DOOM 3 wasn't nearly as good. I've heard rumors though that DOOM 4 is on the way...so we'll see on that! wohoo

I find the Xbox 360 controller to be perfect for Doom since you don't have to actually look up or down, hold that sprint button down and buck around and shoot hellspawn like a champion. I managed to get through all the episodes on the XBLA version in Ultra Violent mode this way.

I used to play Doom back in the day with just a keyboard and that was enough. For any other FPS though its mouse and keyboard all the way.
