I don't think Abby's thoughts on Bayonetta are fair. Actually, there is one aspect I do think it's fair to say is wrong outright - the idea that she is somehow designed for the pleasure of men. I hate this argument, because it isn't true and takes away from her designer. I don't want to be harsh or criticise someone's personal taste, but I think Abby was unfairly assuming her intent.
Not only is it reducing character design to something as one note as pure sex appeal, it's also insinuating that designing something for the pleasure of men is inherently a bad thing.
If I went into a store selling romance novels and complained that a book was designed for the pleasure of women I'd be laughed at and told I should look somewhere else. And they'd have a point.
@songhunter: That was kind of my argument between the lines; probably different and perhaps it would've been an even more entertaining podcast? I guess we'll never know. Not to say the podcast isn't entertaining already of course.
I find it funny how they keep saying they needed Alex in order to keep the podcast on track, I felt like this was the most entertaining Beastcast in a long while.
Perhaps Alex's constant insistence of going back "on track" doesn't always make for the best entertainment.
@elixirbronze: I think Abby's a great hire for Giantbomb but I'm exactly the opposite. I'm here for the industry veteran analysis and expertise. There are plenty of fan/influencers streams of people watching the E3 conferences at this point and we'll hear her interesting viewpoint on the Beastcast and post e3 day live streams no doubt. For the industry trade show I feel Giantbomb should actually use its unique selling point and the reason I pay money to the website. A bunch of duders who know a tonne about this industry.
Aside from maybe Jeff, I don't know if their historical knowledge of the industry is unique enough to warrant the subscribtion at all. They don't know much at all about current games when you compare it to what you call "influencers".
Regardless, that stopped being the reason I pay for Giant Bomb a long time ago, I pay for the laughs they bring, which lately they do less and less often.
And, even if it was their "top expert analysis" I wanted from these press conferense talk overs, surely it wouldn't be ruined just because one of the voices were less experienced than the others?
A bit disappointed in no Abby to be honest, she's the funniest new hire in recent years (ever?) I think. And it would've been interesting to get her live reactions as she's someone with little previous experience with press conferences.
