Are these competent users who swear up and down that they've been super careful with password credentials only to find out when Blizzard does a trace it is indeed a clean, one try login attempt from an internet cafe in Indonesia?

Because of WoW and dealing with this from a guild management perspective, I've come to realize people who think they are smart with their Internet usage often make basic mistakes in trust and pay for it. They visit their cousin's house for a family thing and plays a little WoW with them not realizing that machine used was infected to the gills with spyware due to his pr0n surfing habbits and the next day I see his character logged in the middle of the night and cleaned withdrew from the guild bank to the rank cap and stripped it the entire thing clean. It wasn't that he was incompetent but trusted and assumed they were just as competent.

I strongly disagree with everything you said. Uncharted 1-3 or even Saints Row 3?

are action games.

But he has a point. Why do you think typing in "manipulate yourself" is better than what someone can do in SR3? You haven't really explained the idea beyond "I liked it that way".

Diablo has always been at its core a fun dungeon crawler. Diablo itself was revolutionary by realizing the randomization of loot and dungeons in an easy to understand, graphical manner. That isn't to say dungeon crawlers are fun for everyone but if someone likes this sort of game then Diablo 3 will make them happy.

As a side topic: I am big fan of 2 Step Authenticator systems. It isn't 100% secure and the biggest issue is if you physically lose the authenticator device but it is a stellar way to defeat most low level hacks. No one should be relaxed on maintenance on this type of sensitive information but 2 Step Authenticators help out.

I wouldn't play a offline mode in Diablo 3 any more than I would play Dungeon Defenders offline. It would be an odd way to play as well as serving no point where I could salvage something if even playing a throw away character online.

I believe the reason why you are forced to channel stuff like the teleport stones and identification is so you can't trigger it in the middle of combat. Personally I think they should allow instant identifies while "in town".

The problem with classic adventure games is the interface requires becoming an expert with the HMI. People often don't have the time learn a new "command set" with each game even if they are created by the same team. On the other hand the advent of the "3D Physics Environmental Engine" is easier for any human to grasp in concept. In stead of trying to teach a player about these various commands:

- "search room"

- getting a message about a cupboard

- "open cupboard"

- getting a message about a key

- "get key"

You just create a model of the room with the stuff in and teach the player which button they can use to interact with the world and let them go.

Basically, I don't see any more or less "freedom" in either system. I don't see why it is good to punish players for exploring the interactions in a game. I'm not sure why people believe old games have better stories because it seems classic and modern stories a good and stink.

Good question. If anything they took a big risk trying to put lore and story into Diablo 3.

On the topic of WoW, actually a lot of the problem with "Cataclysm" is they listened to the "hard core raiders" too much. The first set of raids and dungeon (!!!) were a miserable experience because they thought everyone wanted a much more difficult experience.

If Blizzard takes away any lesson from "Cataclysm" is that you don't listen to the vocal minority.
