GOTY 2022

Life kept me even busier than last year and I didn't game much this year. But might as well keep this going, yeah?

  • After a year away, I've come back to this game in a serious way. I think last year I played a couple of quests into Iceborne, but dropped it pretty hard. It was a significant difficulty jump and didn't make the time to learn what I needed to. Welp, turns out, I couldn't stop thinking about Monster Hunter!

I'm legit addicted to this game. I found a good guide for gear, so I'm not blindly grinding like I was before. One more quest, one more hunt. I typically despise RNG dependent games. MHW has MULTIPLE systems that rely on RNG, and yet, the gameplay loop is compelling enough that I want to keep playing.

I did it in HR, and now in MR I can say I've solo'd an elder dragon. That was dope. I definitely hit a wall when I got to the Guiding Lands. The amount of grinding is killing my motivation. I've gotten to some endgame monsters like Safi which are also super grindy. I might dip back in just to hit MR100 and then fully bail. Probably won't get to Fatalis, but I just can't do that much grinding.

  • This isn't half bad! I haven't played it *too* much. But I picked it up at a time when I needed more energy. Just playing once a week definitely had me feeling better.

  • Finally finished Beyond Light during a free weekend. Not bad, but definitely got repetitive. The story was alright. The absolute MIND BLOWN moment when finding out who the Stranger is though. HOW IS THAT JUST DIALOG IN PASSING. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A WHOLE CUT SCENE.

  • Finally made some headway into this game. Getting towards the end of the main game. Very much a by the numbers Pokemon game. It seems like a lot of dev resources went into the world, and the story had a B team on it or something.

  • The first expansion FINALLY came out for this game. And we're back to Hot Wheels! I was initially VERY HYPED for this expansion. I loved the FH3 one. And the opening for this expansion? VERY HYPE. But as I made my way through events, I wasn't feeling it quite as much. The progression is definitely terrible. It definitely looks amazing, but it doesn't have any Hot Wheels adjacent flair, like the T-Rex in FH3. The previous one also had a city with tracks going through it which was also super rad, especially at night.

  • *sigh* So much waste potential. I absolutely loved this game last year. I understand the need for developers to not crunch, but 343 did not staff themselves properly to support a live service game. The first two seasons were made to be 6 months long. The monetization is offensive to say the least.

  • Ended up completing all races in this game, so figured I'd throw it on here. A solid, if not by the numbers, Forza game.
