Games that I'm looking forward to in 2014

I don't know what this says about me as a person, but just about every game on this list has the potential (more so that most other titles) to leave me disappointed and mourning the loss of money that could've been better spent on something nice (like say, a pet squirrel or something). On the brighter side of things, I have titles to look forward to during each part of the year. Release Date Hype?

09/9/2014 Update: If these are the games that I'm picking for GoTY 2014, then my list is gonna be turrible. I need to dig deeper. If all else fails, I can just fill my list with Yakuza games and the PS1/PSP RPGs on my Vita. Whatever.

  • If I'm being 100% honest, I'll be totally okay if this game turns out to be NieR with better gameplay, visuals, and a ridiculous story. After experiencing Drakengard at the tender age of 10 (and playing enough of it to enjoy both the gameplay and the endings), I believe it's safe to say that this entry in the series can't be any worse than the original. Sure, I've heard some unfortunate things about bugs and other blemishes on this game, but it's all about the experience. Please don't fuck me, Drakengard 3.

Verdict: The game was a technical mess, but I enjoyed the game enough to Platinum with the DLC. Zero and her sisters are a strange, yet appealing group of individuals.

  • If Atlus is willing to bring this thing over to the West, there has to be something of value here, right? Whatever! It's another game for my Vita!

Verdict: A decent game that totally burned me out on waifus. My Vita has since become a PSP/PSX RPG machine. Save me, Oreshika 2.

  • Dragon Age Origins was a great game. Dragon Age 2? Not so much. DA2 ruined a lot of goodwill that people had for the series, but Morrigan returns in this one, so it's automatically 200% better than DA2. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that it'll probably be my first next-gen RPG.

  • I'm a sucker for mecha (Real Robots are beautiful things), so a simple language barrier isn't gonna stop me from enjoying this crossover series. Who needs a story when I can have Heero Yuy and other Gundam protagonists clearing entire maps with style? Not this guy! Shame that the Vita version is Digital Only...

Verdict: A solid SRW title with some interesting stages, but it's obvious that Banpresto screwed some series (Gundam Wing, Full Metal Panic, etc..) and threw more money at Gurren Lagann and the UC series. Since the next game will be the last in the Z-Series...

THEY BETTER NOT FUCK IT UP.

  • 2014 is the year of 50/50 titles for me, and The Evil Within continues that trend. I've seen a lot of good things about this game, but there's thing nagging feeling in the back of my mind that Shinji Mikami can't save this game from being a mediocre horror game.

    That sucks.
