For everyone talking about what should and shouldn't be on the list... Wikipedia. Fury Road is categorised in 2010s Science Fiction films. Yup, the internet was a mistake.
I'm interested. I like the potential. Was Snyder involved in this one again? I know it's a bit of a typical thing to say at this point, but I'm not really a big fan of his film style. It was okay for 300, but I don't like it for DC.
He was involved for most of the film, but then decided to drop out to recover with his family after his daughter committed suicide. Joss Whedon took over for the rest of the film at that point, including reshoots.
I hopeful that Whedon's involvement will at least make this film watchable. Yes, yes, I realize that Avengers 2 was kinda bleh. But he's still way better than Snyder. As I understand it this movie has been reworked as much as possible since his departure.
I hope it's better than Whedon's Wonder Woman script...
The callbacks to the original were a bit much? I like that Deckard's role as an ineffective every-man was preserved from the original, also that the entire movie's theme is the inverse of the original (this time, it's the replicants discovering their "humanity"). But the opening shot and the final sequence with K were a bit quaint, if not complete overkill.
Having that theme play during K's last scene ruined that scene for me. It might have been meant as fan service, but as an avid fan of the original, the combination of that theme and that scene was overkill.
Knowing about the so-called Blade Runner Curse, it was kind of odd to see the Sony plastered everywhere. Also, I chuckled when I saw the giant Atari logo.
Of all the interesting plot threads, the Replicant Liberation Front was probably the worst? It felt less like a storyline worth exploring than an excuse to move the main plot forward.
All in all, I enjoyed the movie, but... I can't shake the feeling that it's a rehash, a good one, of the original.
Unless your tastes in games align exactly with the staff member, or reviewer, boiling down their opinion into a single binary rating is going to steer you into a wrong direction more often than not.
