I loved reading through everyone's responses.
is right if Evergreen games is not a concept it definitely should be. To me there is a clear distinction with games that have an endpoint (A narrative RPG or an MMO's Endgame experience) with games that the player must create that endpoint on their own (Conquer Russia, Unite Ireland, Win the World Cup).To better explain my position here is my recent Steam activity mostly from this year:
Evergreen - 176 Hours Total
- Crusader Kings 2 (My GOTY too,
- The Walking Dead - 13 Hours Played - Finished!!! :(
- XCOM: Enemy Unkown - 10 Hours Played - Not finished
- Far Cry 3: 5 Hours Played - Not finished
- Assassin's Creed 3: 29 Hours Played - Not finished
- Darksiders 2: 3 Minutes Played - Started and then immediately went back to CK2 - One day... one day
These aren't all the games I played in 2012 but it provides a pretty accurate snapshot of my Evergreen addiction. I flirted with FTL briefly and knew it would have the same effect so I have to truly dive into that experience. But if I do, that's just another title that will take me away from something like Ni No Kuni.
