Completed Metroid Prime 3 Today

LOVED IT SO MUCH!

The first two Prime games have a special spot on my shelf, next to all my 360 games and movies. Unfortunately I had to let this one pass by me until now because I just got a Wii recently. But coming up on 3 years this is still one of the best looking games I've ever played. The art is just...out of this world. Really though, off in the sky you see giant balls floating away, chained to the surface by massive chains. Each room has its own personality, each room is a completely unique space. Lava falls, snowy canyons tucked away, the acid coated Pirate Homeworld. Nothing looks quite like a Metroid Prime game, and nothing gets quite on the same footing. The puzzles aren't just complex, they're interesting. It still feels like a Metroid game, but backtracking through all the planets puts it on a different scale from the rest of the franchise. Space battles, and voice acting are two things I would not have expected so much of. But I didn't find it distracting or hurting the Metroid name. There are only so many times you can explore barren planets before it's time to had some more flavor. The bounty hunter designs were all spot on for me. The controls on the Wii are fantastic for this game. It keeps that really precise shooting intact while doing the Wii pointer right. I can't give it enough credit. If I ever had to, it would have a place among my favorite games of all time. If you were on the fence about it, or you are like me and just now tapping into the Wii, this is one of the must haves.

I didn't like it so much. Felt that after the original game the franchise got progressively worse... not in a way that meant I felt Prime 3 was totally crap but it just didn't have some elements I felt it should have. The staple feel of isolation for the Metroid series wasn't really there; when you weren't aboard some ship conversing with other people in a fashion reminiscent of Halo you were down on a planet with a computer telling you where to go. I dunno, I just didn't feel quite as immersed in the world(s).

The story also was one of those parts that didn't sit well with me sometimes... but more so the actual storytelling in Prime 3. I read all of the logs in each of the games and I thought, when written out the overall narrative came together quite nicely, but Prime 3's portrayal of some of the events was a bit lackluster. The big boss encounters for each planet, considering the bosses were sort of on the level of Metroid Prime and Emperor Ing were sometimes a bit repetitive and boring, although I think the final fight(s) of the game were probably the most disappointing for me at least considering how easy they were even when they were meant to portray the thing that was behind everything that had happened in the trilogy. I dunno, maybe my standards were just a little too high after the first two games (first in particular) but I just felt a little let down especially after the way everyone hyped it up.

Will admit the game looks very good still and the controls are great though, just a lot of the atmosphere and stuff were missing for me. :/

I cant even finish the first damn Metroid Prime game. Damn my inferior gaming skills.

I absolutely agree :) Corruption's level design was superb for what the Wii can handle.

I think that's fair! Even though it's a Prime game, it's also very different from the franchise as a whole. So are you going to get Other M? It's going to be even more different then ever now!

Metroid Prime 3 is possibly my favorite game of the generation. It's pretty much between that, Mario Galaxy 2, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Fallout 3 and Dead Space.

And I agree -- the graphics are amazing. The game looks better than most 360 and PS3 games.

That game grew on me

At first I hated it but it became one of my favorite Wii games
