These demo disc(k)s have some fun value. I went sought out The Goo Goo Dolls. I do like 90's music even when it isn't very good, but the 90's is still my favorite era of music because that's when music meant something to me. The prevalence of music videos was in everrrrrrything. I watched the new Metallica video and it was the first one in what must have been a decade or short.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Oh man, I'm so excited!
BUT, you have to play Shenmue II as well. It's so much better than the original. Hong Kong is a much better setting, the story is more interesting and is paced better and the characters you interact with feel much more fleshed out as well. This game, revolutionary as it was at the time, feels like an alpha of Shenmue II.
I also think the second one aged far more gracefully. This game is... rough, even for someone like myself who's so nostalgic for the series that he plays both of them almost annually. It's the fucking Mass Effect syndrome, I just play the first one to have a good save game for the second (on Dreamcast, of course).
Also, Shenmue I is pretty short. Shorter than Deadly Premonition, I'd say. But that's coming from someone who can finish it in one 6 hour sitting.
Shenmue 2 has some great locales to explore (I think). There are a lot of neat places and things to do. Neat in the most nuanced way possible of course. I found them interesting.
