So the main theme of Shadowbringers gets played without even getting to the theme. This is what was cut short. Basically the song after the beat drops.
Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is a GOTY contender, but no one played it on staff/reached the expansion. This means best story, best moment, and best music is missing the real winner.
As someone who's played most of the Final Fantasy games I can say that Final Fantasy Tactics had ranked as one of my top games of all time. It had extremely satisfying gameplay (it was my first Tactical RPG) and a story that blew everything out of the water.
I am completely caught up with the Final Fantasy 14 storyline and I can easily say that it surpasses FFT. It has all the political intrigue that FFT brought to the table, but it expands upon it with a nuance that I have never seen in any video game. The Shadowbringers expansion specifically hits every story beat completely out of the park. If you think about the emotional highs you've felt in each Final Fantasy game and then compare those similar themes found in FF14 you'd find that it simply executes those themes in a more satisfying manner. This can only be achieved through years of storytelling, but the writing team simply continues to nail it.
Are we heading towards a situation where the big GOTY contenders are left unplayed and/or unfinished by a large part of the staff because they are too lengthy? Is this a problem with aging out of video games? The whole argument of "This game doesn't respect my busy life?"
@jasperkazai: I’ve never heard of meeting people online as a reason to go to an anime convention. I’ve been going to AX for years and the draw would be the concerts, the anime premieres, the guest panels, the industry panels, the exhibit hall merch, artist alley, the cosplay and taking photos. They obviously have video game demos (kh3 and Fate VR was fun) and board games, but I was surprised Jeff couldn’t imagine the reasons.
I heard that this year’s E3 had 60,000 people while AX 2018 had close to half a million unique people attend. If Jeff wants to attend more days to see what AX is all about I would caution to be prepared for massive crowds.
EDIT: numbers mixed the unique was over 100,000 and the turnstile attendance was over 300,000.
@golguin: They did do that on a Beastcast! I don't remember how long ago but I remember exactly where I was when I heard it lol It was within the past year, I think.
Found it! Episode 115 at about 1:35:00. Thanks to @stordoff for commenting on the premium version's page with the words "Money Hall."
You are right I do remember now, but I remember not understanding the math behind it and just thinking that it didn't sound right. It wasn't until I saw it demonstrated in video that I saw how it actually worked.
