What's up everybody, it's Game Brief time. This week I dive deep into the Socom 4 beta, wax lyrical about Homefront, and rock out to The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile. Sound quality should be at its best this week. Things are improving!
@animathias: That sounds great! I don't visit Tested as often as I should. I will definitely check out their "Apps of the Week" videos. Thanks for the tip!
@Axxol: That's understandable considering how difficult it is telling the few gems apart from the deluge of crap the platform has. Although I think iOS is getting big enough that it's difficult to ignore.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Giant Bomb guys, but I would like to see more coverage of different platforms. I understand that they're only four dudes and probably only have time for limited number of reviews. However, I can't recall the last PSP game they reviewed, nor have they ever reviewed an iOS game. Again, this isn't a slam, but I think it would really add a lot to the site if these platforms could see more coverage.
I understand that the PSP has had a lot of problems. An inconsistent release schedule, shoddy marketing, poor control layout, and constant firmware updates plague Sony's handheld. But what about the games? If you look at titles like God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Valkyria Chronicles II, Ogre Tactics: Let Us Cling Together, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Patapon, etc., it's evident that the PSP has its fair share of excellent games. These games hardly get the attention they deserve. Is this because, as consumers, our concept of what a handheld should be has changed? Do we now look for a quick fix like Angry Birds as opposed to the in-depth experiences the aforementioned games provide? What do you think? Also, I wrote about this very same topic here. Check it out if you would like.
