Yup, switched to normal then beat the game. Now I'm playing on 1999 mode and it's not too bad. Don't get me wrong, I die a lot, but it isn't like hard was back when I started. I think you just need to get acquainted with the game first.

Nope, I think my choice will be easy. It all comes down to which platform doesn't require me to pay to play online. And that looks like the PS4 right now. Then again, who knows.

Bioshock Infinite and other games like it disproves your point. You yourself are being pessimistic instead of seeing the games that actually try something different. There are tons of games that do and / or explore things that you simply couldn't do back in 1999-2003, you just aren't seeing them.
