This game was my game of 2020. The sheer amount of power you can get from tinkering with the right wands + the ease of just getting one-shotted by almost anything is so torturous but fun!
I LOVE Lisa and your opinions/critiques of this game are spot on. I found the masochistic aspects of the game to be overall humorous and tying in with the themes of suckiness and dark humor that permeate the game, almost like a “oh wow that was a horrible descision, that’s great that this mechanic was planned out” kind of way. I was sad to see how overlooked this game was when it comes to stories in games, but I to agree with your point that dark stories are very hard to connect with a large audience. However you did miss one thing, the music in the game. For me it’s a chaotic mess of electronic deliciousness, which I will definitely not vibe with everybody, but man what an impact some of those song give to the atmosphere of this game.
Overall though, Great write-up duder! Thanks for spreading the word on such a neat gem of a game.
Just want to welcome the new duders! It must be the most nerve-racking experience not knowing how you will fit in with the expectations of such a community and personality driven site. I wish you both the best and love to see new people signing on!
Mr. Shakedown is super easy if you use the faster styles (Rush - Kiryu, Thug - Majima) and run in circles and keep at a distance until he does his bull rush attack (head first charge towards you) then go in a lay a two or three hit combo. Another way to totally cheese him buy a full inventory of staminan XX from the pawn shop and use it to raise your heat equip different weapons (not sure if the damage degrades from multiple uses) and just used heat actions on him till he dies.
I typically used a mix of the two. For example after he bull rushes at me I would do a square-square-triangle combo to build heat to the first bar, equip a weapon, and then heat action him. It can be rather tedious, but you can get a lot of money from him once you have beaten him ~10 times.
Keep a lot of heath items though as you will mess up a lot at first trying to read his attacks.
Once you guys start getting a lot of CP from those in-game achievements go to the Shrine and buy some QoL upgrades, like more money from enemies, and eventually infinite stamina to sprint.
