2010, best year ever?

This year's first quarter is as exhausting as the last ten's releases combined. With a slew of huge releases coming out every two weeks, I am trying my damndest to keep up with everything, because I feel a quantity of quality as this should never be missed. Now seeing as I'm a hopeful future video game journalist, I felt a great form of practice would be to lightly document my adventure through what could possibly the greatest year of video games I've seen in my twenty years of living.
I will not be extensively reviewing these games, as I feel that would be more than redundant seeing as this site has that well covered, I am just hoping somebody out there will find interest in a young guy's "Christmas morning" glee. I will start each short blog off with the same title as this, to make each log easy to sort out.
So I guess if you have trudged this far you are willing to read a little more, so please let me know if you are interested in following me, thanks for joining me and wish me luck going through a whole year's worth of blockbusters... hopefully clear of block-breakers.

@Infamousn89: 2010 is already an amazing year. I can barely put Mass Effect 2 down, and I just started Bioshock 2, which is amazing as well. In a couple weeks is Bad Company 2, then we get Splinter Cell! Not to mention about twenty more titles that are gonna rock.
I'll be following you. Christmas morning glee stories are the best stories. I literally just started up on giantbomb so I have no followers. So follow me!

It's looking good, but it's going to be tough to beat 2009.

This year is looking very good but I think a few more games of the quality of what we've already had are needed to make this year as good as 2007 and maybe even 1998.

2010 is good but I think it's too early to declare it best ever.  I see a lot of noteworthy games on the horizon, but the problem I have with placing this year, 2009 or even 2007 above years like 1998 and 2001 is the number of new IPs versus the number of really well made sequels.  New IPs are risky ventures but they also provide the foundation for all new sequels.  In some cases, there may never be a sequel, but the game's influence on other games is highly apparent either through game play, writing, or design.  Looks at these past years and compare them to what you think 2010 will look like.
1998
StarCraft (Win)
Panzer Dragoon Saga (Sat)
Unreal (Win)
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (Win)
Metal Gear Solid (PS)
Grim Fandango (Win)
Half-Life (Win)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Baldur's Gate (Win)
Pokémon Red and Blue (GB)
2001
Paper Mario (N64)
Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64)
Ico (PS2)
Devil May Cry (PS2)
Project Gotham Racing (Xbox)
Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)
FreQuency (PS2)
Max Payne (PC)
...and 2001 notable sequels...
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2)
Silent Hill 2 (PS2)
Final Fantasy X (PS2)
Grand Theft Auto III (PS2)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (PS2)(GC)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2)

Right now, there could be a few really good new IPs with Heavy Rain and Alan Wake, but we won't know that until they are in our hands.  Mass Effect 2 is an interesting game and I liken it to Grand Theft Auto III.  Like GTA III, it took the elements of the early games and completely reinvented them so that they provided a much deeper gaming experience.  We'll have to see if Bioware's design principle has as much influence on the rest of the gaming industry as Rockstar's did.

What makes a "Best Year Ever" in my mind is more than just a bunch of fun games.  The year needs to be important to gaming beyond it's own time span by providing new IPs for years to come, setting new standards for gaming, and inventing new genres.

2007  was still one of the best for me:

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The Orange Box
Super Mario Galaxy
Halo 3
BioShock
Mass Effect
Crysis
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
God of War II
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Rock Band
Contra 4

wow that was a good year for pc gaming - nice!  Thanks for bringing that year up.  I can say that 2010 will be a good year only because of Starcraft 2.

With the things announced so far it will probably be as good as 09', but if it wants to be better, then they better also release the next gears, half life, amongst other stuff I just now forgot.
Edit: And the last guardian, if that makes it this year then I will say that this year will beat 09'.
