Why, you ask? Well, it's simple. People didn't read the graphic novel.

If you haven't read the graphic novel, I've got nothing against you. Hell, I probably like you, but it's those that haven't read the book, but decide that just because they're movie journalists they can pass judgement without having read the novel. The Metacritic score is currently a 49. This score will probably go up soon, but just thinking that someone would give it a 1/5 stars, and their only reason is because Zack Snyder didn't make it exactly friendly for someone who hasn't read the book, is awful. I knew this was bound to happen, but it still manages to bother me. Watchmen is a somewhat complicated graphic novel, and while it may never touch the complexity of Metal Gear Solid, it's still sometimes hard to follow. I know that, but if you're actually trying to understand it, I'm sure you won't have a problem with it.

I know there's going to be a lot of people who go to see it just because they have a friend who loves Watchmen. They're going to watch it, hate it, and go back to their friend and tell them they wasted $10 because they thought it was stupid. Again, this kills me. If you've never read the book, and if you've never heard anything about the movie, you probably shouldn't go see it. You'll be confused, you won't like it, and you'll be part of the problem with this movie in the first place.

This movie was made for it's fans and I'm pretty sure that's exactly who they want to see it. The fact of the matter is, assholes who have never read the graphic novel and are movie journalists who decide that they want to review the film are going to give it a low score. They're not going to understand it but they won't be able to admit it. They're going to say that the movie was bad, just because it went over their head. They're stubborn. They don't even realize that if they weren't such pricks, they'd be able to enjoy a perfectly good movie, and a movie that I'm destined to like.

Now, if you go to see the movie, and you've read the novel or not, and you don't like it, fair enough. Tell you the truth, if you have a good reason about why you dislike the film, I'm happy. At least you have an opinion that's worth something.

Thanks for reading.

The only reason I'm doing a blog is because I need to put two things in my status and can only put one, so I'll just do a 5-minute blog.

Stuff I've been doing:

  • Operation: Anchorage. It's awesome. The gameplay is the same, but the game feels completely different. There's snow. It's cool. There's a lot more run and gun rather than normal Fallout 3. Has some stealth elements. If you loved Fallout 3, I highly reccomend that you buy immediatley.
  • NBA 2k9. The NBA season is in full swing, and I find myself loving NBA 2k9. That is, of course, except for when I play Bruce (Fuck you and Nate Robinson, Bruce.) But yeah, it's fun and I love getting to see Dirk Nowitzki pwn bitches!
  • Left 4 Dead. This is a game I keep coming back to. Simply put, I love killing zombies, so it's a no brainier. If you wanna play lemme know.
  • Guitar Hero World tour came out with some Bruce Springsteen DLC. Born To Run and some shitty new song he did, but it's free. FREE. Born To Run is a classic and for free, well that's just fantastic.
  • I saw Notorious. It was really good. That is all.
  • I saw Gran Torino. That was better. Clint Eastwood was really great in it, and I recommend it to anyone.
  • Slumdog Millionaire had better win Best Picture.
  • I hope Mickey Rourke wins Best Actor. His acting in The Wrestler was fantastic.
  • That's all. Later.

Well, 2008 has come and gone. I've decided I'd choose my Top 5 entertainment moments of 2008. This can include games, movies and the internet in general! Anywho, here they are.

#5 - Slumdog Millionaire

This is my movie of the year, hands down. It's well designed, well acted, well scripted, and overall an extremely well done movie. The way it's structured and the way it tells it's story is fresh and unique, and I won't forget for a long time to come. Some movies stick with you, and actually give you a good idea of what certain cultures are like, and Slumdog Millionaire gives you a glimpse into some bad times of an Indian boy/man. It has everything you could want in a movie. A love interest, great acting, and a happy ending. I'm not really gonna talk about the plot, not just because I don't really want to get into it too much, but also because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone going into this fantastic film. Really, a must see.

#4 - Giant Bomb Launch and its Community

This site and all of you are #4 on my list. The day this site launched was a really What The Fuck moment. No one really knew what was going on. A ton of us have migrated from GameSpot, and in hindsight, this site is the greatest gaming site ever, bar none. The majority of the community (or at least those of you who I have befriended) is pretty cool. The mods are layed back, and the staff is as cool as a staff is gonna get. Some of you are closer friends to me than others, but seriously, you guys are all pretty damn cool, and I enjoy being a part of this community.

#3 - The Office

I'm a huge, huge, huge fan of The Office. It is easily my favorite show on television right now, and one of my favorites of all time. Believe it or not, I started watching The Office in Season 3, but I didn't watch it weekly. If it was on, I'd kinda watch it. Season 4 is when I really started getting into it, and that was 2008. I liked it so much in fact, that I decided to watch all the previous seasons online, and do it I did. It's one of the funniest, most original, and easily the most awkward show on television. The way all the actors go so well together and how the comedy works so well, it's awesome. The Office is easily one of my favorite parts of 2008, and deserves being #3 (and possibly #2, but I've got something special planned for that one. As you can see).

#2 - Megaton, Or Lack There Of

Ah Megaton. I didn't really like you. The people around your parts were kinda douches, and I wasn't too into anything going on there other than that bad ass dude who I wanted to join me but still wouldn't. Maybe if you were a little cooler I would've saved you? Well, no. I probably still wouldn't have, but that's beside the point. I rigged the explosives to the bomb in Megaton, walked all the god damn way to Tenpenny Tower (what an annoying walk) and got on the balcony. Of course it was up to me to press the magic button and I got to see the magnificance that was Megaton being blown to oblivion. These, what, 10 seconds? Were the 10 best video game seconds of 2008. It was crazy, and after that, there was no coming back from the evil karma.

#1 - Braid's Ending

For those of you who have played it, and finished it, you know what I'm talking about. Seriously, that ending blew my mind. The whole game was a really really superb puzzle game with a great fresh take on a time changing mechanic and it was just a cool game. So then I got to the ending. And that turned a great game into one of my favorite games all year. I doubt anything will ever be able to top the feeling I got when I invested all that time into solving all those puzzles, and I realized what I realized. A great thing about the ending is that it's open to interpretation. Some people think it's about some sorta bomb, but I think it's far more simple. It blew my mind and everything I thought I knew about that game was completely reversed. I absolutely loved the game, and it's easily worth $15. If you've got 1200 microsoft points in your account, go buy Braid. It's worth your time and money.

Well that's it. These are my top 5 gaming/movie/entertainment moments of 2008. I doubt I'll forget any of these moments, because they're pretty sweet. I can only hope that 2009 has as many great moments that 2008 had. I've had even more great times with friends, girls, family, and definitely you guys (a category under "friends" of course :P).  So yeah, if you wanna talk or something, just message me.

And I would like to announce officially with no explination other than that Braid was pre-Fallout 3:

Most Anticipated Game of 2009

Bruce, your title got stoled. Feel violated.

Anyhoo, here's pretty much all I want / am going to get for Christmas!

  • Call of Duty: World At War (PS3)
  • Little Big Planet (PS3)
  • Dual Shock 3 (Fairly obvious, no?)
  • Money

This is pretty much all I want! I'm getting the stuff above from my parents. I picked out the fairly simple stuff, and am gonna get money from other relatives to buy other stuff and save up for other stuff! I'm not asking for much really it doesn't seem (but it's still like $180 just for those 3 things...), but as I've got these games to play:

  • Far Cry 2 (360)
  • Fallout 3 (360)
  • Fable II (360)
  • The Darkness (PS3)
  • MGS4 (PS3)
  • More, more, and more FIFA 09 (360)

I've pretty much only been playing FIFA09. It's one of my favorite games all year, and I'd probably take it over any other game in my collection based on how I've chosen it over every other game I have every time I want to play games!

Anyway, that's about it. I just wanted to keep you guys posted on what I've been doing, other than school, school, and even more school! I'm done in a week, so I'm pretty excited for that as well. The much needed break coming up should be really nice for relaxing, playing games, and most importantly being with my family. It should be nice to be able to kick back and play some games, a thing I've really been meaning to do as I haven't had much time with studying and homework and the such (98 on the last test I took!). I'll keep you guys posted, and if you wanna play somethin, just lemme know :)

Catch you later.

Alright, so some music and games to talk about.

Music

  • 808's and Heartbreaks is pretty good. If you like Kanye you should probably check it out. I still like Graduation better...
  • Chinese Democracy may be a pretty anticipated CD, but it's ass. Seriously, I don't care if you're the biggest GNR fan ever, or if you like Hip Hop. Don't listen to this album. Yes, it's THAT bad.
  • Day & Age by The Killers is also out. It's pretty cool, and worth a check out from Killers fans, but for all else, I'd stay away.

Games And The Such

  • Yeah, I totally wrote that
  • Otherwise, I haven't been playing... anything, really. Just been school school school.

Right, so, cool. I'm out.

Peace.
