Why Watchmen will never get what it deserves.

Why, you ask? Well, it's simple. People didn't read the graphic novel.

If you haven't read the graphic novel, I've got nothing against you. Hell, I probably like you, but it's those that haven't read the book, but decide that just because they're movie journalists they can pass judgement without having read the novel. The Metacritic score is currently a 49. This score will probably go up soon, but just thinking that someone would give it a 1/5 stars, and their only reason is because Zack Snyder didn't make it exactly friendly for someone who hasn't read the book, is awful. I knew this was bound to happen, but it still manages to bother me. Watchmen is a somewhat complicated graphic novel, and while it may never touch the complexity of Metal Gear Solid, it's still sometimes hard to follow. I know that, but if you're actually trying to understand it, I'm sure you won't have a problem with it.

I know there's going to be a lot of people who go to see it just because they have a friend who loves Watchmen. They're going to watch it, hate it, and go back to their friend and tell them they wasted $10 because they thought it was stupid. Again, this kills me. If you've never read the book, and if you've never heard anything about the movie, you probably shouldn't go see it. You'll be confused, you won't like it, and you'll be part of the problem with this movie in the first place.

This movie was made for it's fans and I'm pretty sure that's exactly who they want to see it. The fact of the matter is, assholes who have never read the graphic novel and are movie journalists who decide that they want to review the film are going to give it a low score. They're not going to understand it but they won't be able to admit it. They're going to say that the movie was bad, just because it went over their head. They're stubborn. They don't even realize that if they weren't such pricks, they'd be able to enjoy a perfectly good movie, and a movie that I'm destined to like.

Now, if you go to see the movie, and you've read the novel or not, and you don't like it, fair enough. Tell you the truth, if you have a good reason about why you dislike the film, I'm happy. At least you have an opinion that's worth something.

Thanks for reading.

Quickie.

The only reason I'm doing a blog is because I need to put two things in my status and can only put one, so I'll just do a 5-minute blog.

Stuff I've been doing:

  • Operation: Anchorage. It's awesome. The gameplay is the same, but the game feels completely different. There's snow. It's cool. There's a lot more run and gun rather than normal Fallout 3. Has some stealth elements. If you loved Fallout 3, I highly reccomend that you buy immediatley.
  • NBA 2k9. The NBA season is in full swing, and I find myself loving NBA 2k9. That is, of course, except for when I play Bruce (Fuck you and Nate Robinson, Bruce.) But yeah, it's fun and I love getting to see Dirk Nowitzki pwn bitches!
  • Left 4 Dead. This is a game I keep coming back to. Simply put, I love killing zombies, so it's a no brainier. If you wanna play lemme know.
  • Guitar Hero World tour came out with some Bruce Springsteen DLC. Born To Run and some shitty new song he did, but it's free. FREE. Born To Run is a classic and for free, well that's just fantastic.
  • I saw Notorious. It was really good. That is all.
  • I saw Gran Torino. That was better. Clint Eastwood was really great in it, and I recommend it to anyone.
  • Slumdog Millionaire had better win Best Picture.
  • I hope Mickey Rourke wins Best Actor. His acting in The Wrestler was fantastic.
  • That's all. Later.

My Top 5 Moments of 2008

Well, 2008 has come and gone. I've decided I'd choose my Top 5 entertainment moments of 2008. This can include games, movies and the internet in general! Anywho, here they are.

#5 - Slumdog Millionaire

This is my movie of the year, hands down. It's well designed, well acted, well scripted, and overall an extremely well done movie. The way it's structured and the way it tells it's story is fresh and unique, and I won't forget for a long time to come. Some movies stick with you, and actually give you a good idea of what certain cultures are like, and Slumdog Millionaire gives you a glimpse into some bad times of an Indian boy/man. It has everything you could want in a movie. A love interest, great acting, and a happy ending. I'm not really gonna talk about the plot, not just because I don't really want to get into it too much, but also because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone going into this fantastic film. Really, a must see.

#4 - Giant Bomb Launch and its Community

This site and all of you are #4 on my list. The day this site launched was a really What The Fuck moment. No one really knew what was going on. A ton of us have migrated from GameSpot, and in hindsight, this site is the greatest gaming site ever, bar none. The majority of the community (or at least those of you who I have befriended) is pretty cool. The mods are layed back, and the staff is as cool as a staff is gonna get. Some of you are closer friends to me than others, but seriously, you guys are all pretty damn cool, and I enjoy being a part of this community.

#3 - The Office

I'm a huge, huge, huge fan of The Office. It is easily my favorite show on television right now, and one of my favorites of all time. Believe it or not, I started watching The Office in Season 3, but I didn't watch it weekly. If it was on, I'd kinda watch it. Season 4 is when I really started getting into it, and that was 2008. I liked it so much in fact, that I decided to watch all the previous seasons online, and do it I did. It's one of the funniest, most original, and easily the most awkward show on television. The way all the actors go so well together and how the comedy works so well, it's awesome. The Office is easily one of my favorite parts of 2008, and deserves being #3 (and possibly #2, but I've got something special planned for that one. As you can see).

#2 - Megaton, Or Lack There Of

Ah Megaton. I didn't really like you. The people around your parts were kinda douches, and I wasn't too into anything going on there other than that bad ass dude who I wanted to join me but still wouldn't. Maybe if you were a little cooler I would've saved you? Well, no. I probably still wouldn't have, but that's beside the point. I rigged the explosives to the bomb in Megaton, walked all the god damn way to Tenpenny Tower (what an annoying walk) and got on the balcony. Of course it was up to me to press the magic button and I got to see the magnificance that was Megaton being blown to oblivion. These, what, 10 seconds? Were the 10 best video game seconds of 2008. It was crazy, and after that, there was no coming back from the evil karma.

#1 - Braid's Ending

For those of you who have played it, and finished it, you know what I'm talking about. Seriously, that ending blew my mind. The whole game was a really really superb puzzle game with a great fresh take on a time changing mechanic and it was just a cool game. So then I got to the ending. And that turned a great game into one of my favorite games all year. I doubt anything will ever be able to top the feeling I got when I invested all that time into solving all those puzzles, and I realized what I realized. A great thing about the ending is that it's open to interpretation. Some people think it's about some sorta bomb, but I think it's far more simple. It blew my mind and everything I thought I knew about that game was completely reversed. I absolutely loved the game, and it's easily worth $15. If you've got 1200 microsoft points in your account, go buy Braid. It's worth your time and money.

Well that's it. These are my top 5 gaming/movie/entertainment moments of 2008. I doubt I'll forget any of these moments, because they're pretty sweet. I can only hope that 2009 has as many great moments that 2008 had. I've had even more great times with friends, girls, family, and definitely you guys (a category under "friends" of course :P).  So yeah, if you wanna talk or something, just message me.

And I would like to announce officially with no explination other than that Braid was pre-Fallout 3:

Game Of The Year

Fallout 3

Movie Of The Year

Slumdog Millionaire

Most Anticipated Game of 2009

Killzone 2

Most Anticipated Movie of 2009

James' Christmas wishlist.

Bruce, your title got stoled. Feel violated.

Anyhoo, here's pretty much all I want / am going to get for Christmas!

  • Call of Duty: World At War (PS3)
  • Little Big Planet (PS3)
  • Dual Shock 3 (Fairly obvious, no?)
  • Money

This is pretty much all I want! I'm getting the stuff above from my parents. I picked out the fairly simple stuff, and am gonna get money from other relatives to buy other stuff and save up for other stuff! I'm not asking for much really it doesn't seem (but it's still like $180 just for those 3 things...), but as I've got these games to play:

  • Far Cry 2 (360)
  • Fallout 3 (360)
  • Fable II (360)
  • The Darkness (PS3)
  • MGS4 (PS3)
  • More, more, and more FIFA 09 (360)

I've pretty much only been playing FIFA09. It's one of my favorite games all year, and I'd probably take it over any other game in my collection based on how I've chosen it over every other game I have every time I want to play games!

Anyway, that's about it. I just wanted to keep you guys posted on what I've been doing, other than school, school, and even more school! I'm done in a week, so I'm pretty excited for that as well. The much needed break coming up should be really nice for relaxing, playing games, and most importantly being with my family. It should be nice to be able to kick back and play some games, a thing I've really been meaning to do as I haven't had much time with studying and homework and the such (98 on the last test I took!). I'll keep you guys posted, and if you wanna play somethin, just lemme know :)

Catch you later.

Music... and Games?

Alright, so some music and games to talk about.

Music

  • 808's and Heartbreaks is pretty good. If you like Kanye you should probably check it out. I still like Graduation better...
  • Chinese Democracy may be a pretty anticipated CD, but it's ass. Seriously, I don't care if you're the biggest GNR fan ever, or if you like Hip Hop. Don't listen to this album. Yes, it's THAT bad.
  • Day & Age by The Killers is also out. It's pretty cool, and worth a check out from Killers fans, but for all else, I'd stay away.

Games And The Such

  • Yeah, I totally wrote that
  • Otherwise, I haven't been playing... anything, really. Just been school school school.

Right, so, cool. I'm out.

Peace.

Top 5

Hey guys, I know it's been a while since I've done a blog, but I've been really busy with school. Been trying to keep them grades up!

Anyway, the reason I'm doing a blog now is because I decided that I'd do the 2008 Holiday Buyer Guide for AceGamez.Com. I did the Buyer Guide last year, and afterwards I felt really good about it, and received a lot of praise for it, so I decided that I'd definitely do it again. I've been working like mad for the last two days to compile info on over 60 games, so now that it's in and being edited as we speak, it feels nice.

A big part of the Buyer Guide after the Buyer Guide itself, is the Top 5 of all the reviewers from AceGamez. Everyone sends their Top 5 to our editor and they go up under the Buyer Guide. This really made me think, what WERE my favorite 5 games of the year? I knew it would be tough to decide, and I finally did. I'm not going to drag it out by putting a bunch of nominees and categories up, I'll just give 'em to you straight. And by the way, we only got to write a sentence or two about the games, and I'm not writing any more for you assholes (:P), so here they are:

1. Braid
1. Braid

An important game in the history of gaming. It offers a fresh take on the time changing mechanic and the overall product is something never seen before in gaming. The best ending I've ever experienced in a video game.

2. Fallout 3
2. Fallout 3

An epic game in every sense of the word. Gives you the freedom to explore what you want, when you want in a post-apocalyptic world. Nothing short of awesome.

3. Gears of War 2
3. Gears of War 2

The sequel to one of my favorite games ever, but advancing on the series in great ways. Great new multiplayer and single player as well.

4. Metal Gear Solid 4
4. Metal Gear Solid 4

Incredible graphics and even better gameplay. The best stealth action game... ever. Sure, I didn't understand the story, but I sure as hell enjoyed the ride!

5. FIFA 09
5. FIFA 09

WHAT?! Yeah, I enjoyed FIFA 09 more than GTA IV. FIFA 09 is the best FIFA game ever, and one of the best sports games ever. It's got a ridiculous amount of modes and features that make this one of the best games all year.

And there you have it. Those are my favorite 5 games of 2008. Some may call me crazy, some may call me... well no one will call me right, but eh, these are my favorite games, and I stand by them :)

Ignore this thing below, it's pissing me off too!

What's YOUR Favorite Team?

Here's a rundown by each sport of my favorite teams. I'll go alphabetically by sport. (These are all the sports I care about at least a little)

Baseball:
Boston Red Sox
However, my favorite team in the NL is the LA Dodgers.

Basketball:
Boston Celtics
Again, favorite team from the opposite league is the Dallas Mavericks.

Football:
Football could probably be considered my favorite sport. This is why this category is so important.
Buffalo Bills
Favorite team in the NFC is the Minnesota Vikings.

Hockey:
Buffalo Sabers
Don't really have another favorite team. But it used to be the Avalanche, so I guess I'll go with that.

Soccer (or Football):
Italy is my favorite national team, mainly because I'm, like, 50 - 75% Italian (the rest consists of Swedish and German).

But my favorite club teams for soccer are Manchester United and Roma.
I'm not just an American who saw looked at all the European club teams and decided that the team who won last year was my favorite. I've been a fan of Man U for years now. Just wanted to point that out. As for Roma, well, I'm Italian, so I had to have a favorite Italian team right? Well yes, and since Rome is the capital, the parts of my family who like soccer have been supporting them for a long time.

The only reason I had more of an explanation for Soccer is because most americans don't like soccer and don't watch it. It's my second favorite sport right next to football. Then Hockey, then Baseball, then Basketball.

Giants vs. Jets. I pick Bills.
Yankees vs. Mets. I pick Boston.
Rangers vs. Islanders. I pick Sabers.
:P

But the main point of this blog is to not only tell you what my favorite teams are for the record, but ask YOU what your favorite teams are. So go on, don't be shy. What are they?

In Gaming News:
-I got into the LittleBigPlanet beta, so if you're in and have made levels, add me. I'm in need of some levels :P
-I got Burnout and have been loving it.
-I've been playing a lot of Superstar in Madden and Madden in general.
-Rock Band 2 has come out with RHCP downloadable content and I've been all over that shit as their my favorite band.
-Some fucker stole the domain GamePortrait.com, whoever you are, you're a fucker and a terrible excuse for a person.
-Had an extra LBP beta code and went on the GameTrailers forums. Some guy gave me the new Wipeout for PSN, Pain for PSN, and Qore Episode 3 for PSN, assuring me a spot in the Resistance 2 beta :)
-Might have more LBP beta codes coming my way. I'll keep you posted :)

Favorite teams! Now!

Catch you later,
James

TV Recently...

... has been really good!

On Monday's I watch Chuck and Heroes.

Then it's onto Thursday when I watch My Name is Earl, 30 Rock (when it comes back), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and The Orifice.

Chuck so far has been pretty darn good. I'm enjoying the story lines, and I've been a Chuck fan since it's been on, and I'm happy to say it's got the same charm and whit to it as it ever has. If you're a fan of the show, definitely continue watching, and if you aren't I think even if you pick it up now it'll still make some sense to you. Check it out.

Heroes is easily one of my favorites. Season 2 was kind of a bust. Not much happened and it was pretty boring, but we're only 3 episodes in and more has happened since Season 2. Seriously, if you're not into this show, check out out the first season. I can understand how some people can't really get into this show, but I really like it. If you're just starting to watch, don't pick it up in the 3rd season. You won't understand a thing.

My Name Is Earl has definitely been disappointing me as of late. The show isn't too funny, and definitely not up to par with the other seasons. If you're a fan, I'd suggest watching it, if you're not, I'd suggest watching the first few seasons, but this one looks like it's gonna bust. (It's been steadily declining in both funniness and quality of the story for the past few seasons.) If you still wanna check it out, however, you can click here and see the past few episodes.

30 Rock is a hilarious, hilarious show. Tina Fey plays Lizz Lemon and Alec Baldwin plays Jack Donaghee. It's basically all the crazy crap that goes on behind the scenes of a live TV show. The star of the show Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) is absolutely insane and Lizz Lemon has to keep track of him, as well as a past-her-prime actress. I'm really not explaining it that well :P, but seriously, check the show out.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's a politically incorrect show that covers all the topics shows like Seinfeld, and other great sitcoms wouldn't touch with a 20 foot pole. These include: Eating humans, hunting men, pretending to be cops, looking like a sex offender, accusing your friend of being a serial killer, dating a mentally retarded person (and not knowing it!), dating a 12 year old North Korean girl (that you thought was your age!), trying out for the Eagles, finding a dumpster baby, getting a new father, soliciting bribes, exploiting the virgin Mary, banging your friends mom, going on welfare, making a terrorist "Jihad Tape", getting crippled, getting molested, finding a dead guy (pretending you knew him!), getting a gun, being racist, wanting an abortion, and underage drinking. Now if this intregues you, you're a terrible person. Just kidding! I know it sounds bad, but it's seriously one of the funniest shows on TV. You can watch all the first 3 seasons and the beginning of Season 4 right here.

And last of all my favorite show on TV right now, The Orifice.

The Office is easily my favorite show on TV right now. It's got some of the best comedy ever seen in a TV show or anywhere. The humor is undescribable, and the characters are priceless. This is basically a disfunctional office with a goofy, dumb boss who can never seem to get anything right. It's awkward, it's funny, it's on Hulu also. If you want to watch the past 5 or so episodes of The Office and see whats up with the show go ahead and click here (great quality). Or if you want to watch episodes from all Seasons, go here (bad quality).

Hulu.com is easily one of my favorite sites on the web. It's where I go to see all my TV shows that came out recently and best of all they've got deals with the TV companies, so you only have to watch 15 seconds or so of commercials every 10 minutes or so and you can watch all the TV you want whenever you want.

SurfTheChannel.com is also completely legit, as all it does is gather episodes other people have uploaded to sites like MegaVideo and Tudou. Note: Megavideo is easily the best quality, so if you're watching Season 2, you can always choose Megavideo (as far as I remember), and Season 3 doesn't have it, so beware the long buffer times!

This wasn't going to be a long blog, but I guess it turned into one! :P

Gaming wise, I've been playing or will soon be playing Burnout Paradise, Supreme Commander, and Ninja Gaiden II. Finished Lego Batman, am trying to move on from COD4, but it's just such a good game to play and talk with friends, and am also trying to play MGS4. Just can't!

That's about all.

I'll catch ya'll round the net.

James.
