Srsly?

With E3 around the corner, everyone is wondering what all the big(and little) companies are going to announce. Seeing as we have had little to no info since the last E3 about Natal, why did they announce it last year at all? Shouldn't you only announce something that is going to come out prior to the next annual installment of E3? Otherwise, it's really all just filler.

Same goes for the PS3 Move. We got some nice info at the GDC this year so it gets a pass, but why wasn't it announced at GDC and NOT at E3 '09? Again, shouldn't that stuff only be pertinent to the next fiscal year?

I believe I am beginning to see how differently the game industry is run as opposed to big entertainment expos of yesteryear. It all amounts to hype. I am leery of this years installment of the exposition for the simple fact that none of the stuff mentioned could come within the 2010-2011 fiscal calendar. It could all be about hyping up the next great thing from 2012 or beyond. If that is the case, do I really need to know about the pre-pre-alpha version of said product now? Nope. I want to know about what is coming to me soon(ish), not what is still so far away on the horizon that it may not even include features that people talk about it having now. Especially with all of the garbage in the blogosphere hypothesizing ad nauseum. I'll take a pass if that is what is going to happen yet again.

It's all about hype.  People are thinking and talking about Natal and Move even though it doesn't come out till a year and whatever later.

And Move was probably announced to counter the Natal hype and up the Move hype.

It doesn't really matter to them when it's coming out as long as people are thinking about it and getting excited about the eventual release of it.  Obviously there are cased where they release info way to soon and hype dies down before the product is released, but knowing where that limit is, would be part of that person's job description.  Hype for these products won't die down any time soon before they are released because they keep putting out more information on them as well.  Plus they are pretty huge products in the industry.  Taking Nintendo's idea and making it work well instead of how it does work, will be awesome.

I guess we'll see alot of Move and Natal at E3 and a few games that use it. I wouldn't expect too much. I'm only really interested in seeing some footage of Portal 2 which could be there or maybe a trailer for Episode 3 could somehow come out (oh fucking hell Valve give me Episode 3! Stop announcing other games and pushing it back another year each time!!).

But yeah, this industry hit hype heaven around Wii/PS3 launch and hasn't really hit that high since. I don't expect this year to be that exciting either.

Meh, I'm not too excited about Natal or Move. I wish I could prevent the release of them

I am really just saying that most of what comes out of there is not really relevant to the near future really. Some of the gaming news is great when a title is close to release, but in a lot of the Big 3 stuff, it's all just hype, and hype doesn't fuel my console.

What I'm wondering is this.
We've got all these release dates for games in 2011.

So what about 2010 after E3? It's just gonna be a boring wait for it to become 2011?
They better have something worth showing coming out this year too.
