Moved from a 2500K with an R9 270X to a 7700 with a 1060 6GB and the game went from 30fps on medium to 1080p60 with everything but basically tree geometry maxed out. Hopefully it runs well on something less than that.

Demonstrable differences in frame rates and resolutions for multiplatform games, sluggish UI, and looming obsolescence by Scorpion do little to blunt these two crucial points:

  1. It has the best video game controller ever made as of 2017.
  2. It has a back catalog of games that stretches back to 2005 for MS games, and the early 80s if you want to talk about ports.

If you weren't all in on Sony platforms last generation or have just been out of the loop, $300 can get you a quiet, relatively power efficient console with a simply stupid back catalog of games.

Sony gave me these sick copies of Yakuza 4 and 5, and I keep finding new things to play before them. Hot titles like...Bomberman GB.

My partner didn't like being put to sleep, or woken up by Titus Fantasy X.

@cronus42: I'm curious if they could potentially mitigate passing on their R&D/customization costs to consumers by insane bulk purchase-style deals with vendors? I would imagine there are a lot of Xbox One and One S owners (myself included) who would be totally down to upgrade to this device if the price point is reasonable enough.

I was mostly curious about the sort of power draw this thing would pull, but sticking with an internal power supply and relying on the same C7 barrel as the One S is very encouraging. Neatly positioned to just swap this bad boy in place.

I've played about thirty hours on the Wii U, ballpark. On booting it, the first few minutes I tend to notice that it is definitely a 720p game upscaling to a 1080p display. Little bit of shimmer, little bit of haze, some pop in, some slow down.

Then five minutes pass and I've basically stopped noticing. Most of the art does a fantastic job masking the version's compromises, particularly the dungeons and shrines. You're constantly being presented with new, small puzzles to solve and new regions to explore, such that I've wound up losing myself in the game within minutes every single session. I've no doubt in my mind that the Switch offers a better visual experience, plus the added benefit of portability. That doesn't move the needle for me, but that's mostly because I just dumped north of a grand on a new PC. The Wii U version is not only good; it might be the best game on the system, and it has some very good competition at this point.

Assuming the $400 price point will be a thing, I'm even game to trade my One S if there's full backwards parity. I don't find Microsoft or Sony's hardware as intrinsically valuable as older consoles, which I keep in a pile under my bed like a dragon-man.

I haven't paid for cable since 2009, and have persuaded my parents to dump cable as of last year. I don't watch much television anyway, but even if I did there are so many avenues of receiving much of the same content without all of the goddamn ads. The worst part of the WWE Network, a paid subscription-based service, is that it serves you what I feel is a shit ton of ads and charges for the privilege.
