This weeks' patch doesn't bring much in the way of improvements to the platform, but we do get two fairly interesting new heroes: Disruptor and Undying.

Both these heroes should see a decent amount of competitive play. Disruptor serves as one of the most powerful disablers in the game, while Undying brings a great deal of push and teamfight.
Invites were being sold for $40 a piece outside of steam, so Valve basically just legitimized the process, and stopped handing out free money.
If you don't want to pay to play, then you can wait a bit and you'll get in in due process.
Valve can do no wrong guys.... Man fuck this! Paying for a beta invite. So only the hardcore will get this early get real good before anyone else. This whole game has really turned me against Valve, stealing a Blizzard property and putting 2 on the end and pretty much ripping off the setting and characters from the Blizzard game.
First (and most importantly, of course) this week's patch brings Rubick, the Grand Magus
His abilities are as follows:
Q - Telekinesis: Rubick uses his telekinetic powers to lift the enemy into the air briefly and then hurls them back at the ground. The unit lands on the ground with such force that it stuns nearby enemies.
W - Fade Bolt: Rubick creates a powerful stream of arcane energy that travels between enemy units, dealing damage and reducing their attack damage.
E - Null Field: Rubick's mastery of the arcane protects his allies against weaker magics, granting them magic resistance.
R - Spell Steal: Rubick studies the trace magical essence of one enemy hero, learning the secrets of the last spell the hero cast. Rubick can use this spell as his own for several minutes or until he dies.
That's right, he can steal spells.
Other than that, the major announcement in this patch is Valve's plan for Tournament viewing. Essentially, you'll be able to buy the ability to stream tournaments in client, with caster commentary and such, and Valve will split the proceeds with the tournament organizers. The Defense is the first tournament which will be utilizing this concept. It starts today and tickets to watch any of the matches (and download the replays) in-game is available in the Dota store for $5 USD.

@dinex: I just meant that his background is funny for a supposed renowned economist. I am not saying he is bad or caused the Greek economic crisis, but just that his background is surprising for what he does. Obviously if you do your research it doesnt matter where he comes from, but to, as you put it, an ignorant person, it is still slightly surprising.
I dont expect the next great hockey player to come out of India, just like I didnt really expect a great economist to come out of Greece. Considering his country has plunged into a huge recession that could upset a large portion of the world, I would say it is pretty valid to not necessarily think that they have great economists there. Apparently they do. Unfortunately the Greek president should have listened better when this guy was his advisor.
Funny story: every nation in the Western world is feeling the effects of the financial crisis, and they all have economists. And let's not blame it all on the Greeks. They're one part of a global financial system that is proving increasingly rotten.
@Demyx: so it is just like your paying for early access and a few cosmetic items.
Im gonna guess you pay and get access to all heros instead of a rotating roaster.
All of the heroes are free. For everyone. The $40 dollar bundle is for people who want into the beta but haven't been able to get a key. They throw in a bunch of items as well.
