I've come to think less favorably of Mordin's justifications for enacting the genophage since playing the game for the first time all those years ago, but I still very much appreciate how Bioware wrote ethical quagmire of the genophage. Same thing with the Quarians and the Geth! Nuanced conflicts based on rich histories make for such a compelling world.

Also, Vinny, play Bloodborne! Don't care if you do it on stream or just at home! One of the best games of the generation.

@sempiternal: i think dan makes all the wrestling references in all the giant bomb content we consume knowing there are thousands of us watching and listening that do get the references! god bless the man for them.

anyway, this premiere has me super excited for the future episodes where the whole CRIME CREW comes together

Thanks for the show! Was real fun watching it. Enjoyed the nostalgia trip. Credits song is still amazing.

Looking forward to the next ball-busting, booze-bingeing series from Ben and Jason!

tiny tip from seeing the first minute of the episode:

the engineers' "dialogue" are all incidental since you finished their little sidequest, along with the rest of the normandy's crew. they're not going to say anything new when you actively talk to them. if you're actually interested in hearing what they have to say after story missions, just hang out next to them and let their dialogue play out.

alex interrupted what they had to say about jack by initiating the dialogue wheel, and i'm not sure there's a way to get them to repeat what they were going to say.

You did it, Abby! You put an end to the zombie outbreak! Never have to worry about the dead walking ever again! Great little series of Playdates here, and I hope you enjoy playing through all of Leon's B run. There are just enough twists and new content to make finishing that worth it. Also, doing so is the only way to see the true ending!

All the times Vinny brought up him and Brad playing through all of RE5 on co-op makes me wish they did that on stream... 10 years ago?

To make up for it, hell yes I would love to see Vinny and Dan play Portal 2 co-op! I only got to see a couple of levels of that back in the day, so it'd be totally fresh for me.

they made this harder than it should have been by constantly using level 1 roulette attacks instead any of the other level 2 and 3 attacks.

shockwave does a paltry 80(!) damage compared to shaolin blast's 1500 damage, which they had access to the entire time!

hell, using dragon kick, home run god, or even wild pitch just once would've made this a lot smoother than using shockwave, divine smash, daisy cutter, or kung fu samba multiple times.

i hope they remember those much more powerful roulette attacks for the next episode because this game doesn't get any easier!

don't care if i get moderated for this, but @s5n8k3 is an asshole and a moron for judging abby's capacity to do her job (which is being a producer btw) based on her playing a fucking video game

as far as i'm concerned, she's done great work producing shows, coming up with exciting features, injecting new energy into the crew while fitting right in with her sense of humor, providing totally fresh perspectives, and just being an excellent entertainer. this playdate series alone proves she's knocking it out of the park with how many of us are super into it.

she's right up there with the rest of the staff!

(also none of the giant bomb staff, past or present, are particularly great at playing video games anyway, save for alex drumming in rock band because he's an actual drummer, so player skill is an awful metric to go by for judging any of the crew's fucking competency at their job)

I got through the Sherry stealth segment in one shot my first try. I felt the game communicated what I needed to do quite naturally, and the vision cone for BRIAN IRONS (funny to say it out loud) is quite forgiving. It takes only a couple of minutes and has way less moving parts than any of the Spider-Man forced stealth sections, which also happen multiple times and get longer and more involved deeper into the game.

The whole tactic of shooting legs requires you to actually fire on them more than once! But also it's not at all necessary in Standard difficulty, so just keep going for those headshots Abby!

Hardcore, yes, I found taking out legs absolutely critical to get past a lot of narrow hallways without wasting a ton of ammo. Zombies with one leg can't get back up, Dan! And they are significantly easier to avoid when they're just slowly crawling on the ground.

But yes, most "advanced tactics" aren't necessary to get through the game. They make it easier, but Abby can keep playing the way she's playing and still beat RE2.

There's a simple joy to watching people play a damn good video game all the way through and seeing them enjoy the hell out of it.

So many great moments in this one episode alone!

This is currently the best thing on the site, so I'm glad the Beast crew has committed to beating the game!

General tip: You unlock shortcuts as you go through an area. Long, dangerous routes can be mostly avoided when backtracking by taking note of when you unlock doors and carefully plotting your path when checking the map. There's a general flow to the big areas that the game nudges you along through that makes traversal feel very natural without hitting a lot of dead ends.

I personally like to always leave 3-4 inventory slots empty every time I go out of a safe room to minimize discarding and taking unplanned storage box detours.

Since Abby is playing on Standard, I really wouldn't worry about her ammo situation. The game is relatively generous providing just enough new resources in every area to get through it, even in boss arenas.

In Hardcore, yes, all this ammo consumption would make certain parts incredibly tough and require perfect item usage!

But on Standard, it's made for some hella good entertainment.
